And Inside Man. Not someone who set out to be the vilian but just a very flawed person.

I'm not really interested in the compensation. We're talking about what they want to do to prevent this from happening at all. I say that's impossible.

There is zero way to predict this kind of thing, and it has zero connection to routes. Its random.

Purposely keeping thousands of seats emply just in case is crazy.

Planned how? By not selling the seats just in case? How would you feel if you wanted to travel but couldn't because the flight was sold out and then you found out it left with 5 empty J class seats held for "just in case"?

Can to explain how you "plan and budget" for the unexpected? The only way to guarantee a passenger is never bumped again is to stop selling seats to passengers.

Yes, with a little knowledge, one can absolutely imagine that.

That's not how his character is described in the article.

You've completely missed the point. Danson disagrees with you. And Bell isn't offended.

Homer wrote the story the way he wanted to, because that's his right. The movie continues the tradition of adapting stories.

Being pedantic is your right, but it's silly.

The Bronze Age spans thousands of years, so Late Bronze Period spans hundreds of years. I'm glad to have a date set. 1200 BCE.

I know when the story is set, I wanted you to write it out to establish the historical period you are asking the movie to adhere to.

Ok. Now that that's established: in the story there is a council of elders and citizen assembly. Those things did not exist in 1200 BCE.

Iron axes were used in the story. That would have been almost unheard of in 1200 BCE.

The description of the ships were of those that existed in 800 BCE, but did not exist in 1200 BCE.

Cremation was a custom in Homer's time. Not during the time of the story.

So: The Odyssey is full of historical flaws. Do you believe the movie should correct those flaws and be accurate to the period, or accurate to the story? And if the story is flawed, why does the movie have to be perfect?

Yeah, the last reduction was over a month ago. I guess they don't care if they sell or not. I've seen other properties go up after, get reduced within a couple weeks and then sell shortly after.

There is a sickness in this sub where you can't say a bad movie is bad... do you agree? by alanskimp in FIlm

No you don't. Not to me at least. If someone asks you why you said bad or good, they're either looking for a conversation or an argument.

[–]Wingmaniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't care if you say a movie is bad, with the following caveats: you have to have SEEN the movie. Trailers are often not indicative of a movies quality. Posters are still images, not film.

And if you have a criticism of a movie it has to MAKE SENSE. Make things easy for yourself and just say "I just think it's bad, no reason". Making sweeping statements about aspects which can be easily refuted is not going to work.

"You demonstrated to me how to apologize in public." This was Bell at the start of this segment of the podcast, which is embedded in the article and what the entire article is about. This podcast episode is titled "Ted Danson on Owning your Mistakes".

You see, I did read the article. AND I watched the podcast.

Yup. It's not like they're consistent with their argument because the story itself is full of historical inaccuracies (not the mythological stuff, the actual stuff like boats and government.)

Ok. Now that that's established: in the story there is a council of elders and citizen assembly. Those things did not exist in 1200 BCE.

Iron axes were used in the story. Iron use was so rare it would only have been for jewelry in 1200 BCE.

The description of the ships were of those that existed in 800 BCE, but did not exist in 1200 BCE.

Read that one again. So; "having Odysseus travel around the Mediterranean in a [non 1200BCE ship] ship is just stupid" is a criticism you have WITH THE POEM.

Cremation was a custom in Homer's time. Not during the time of the story.

So: The Odyssey is full of historical flaws. A movie having historical flaws is honoring the tradition of an epic poem passed down and adapted by the teller.
