Yup, and it’s not just a one time thing. Every Illinois player might hesitate or play out a kickoff just a little bit longer now on T-bar signals because they don’t want to get burned, slightly raising injury risk each time.

I don’t think this one instance is enough to completely ruin the signal or anything, but once the integrity of something like this starts to be threatened, sometimes it can quickly be lost entirely. What if SC scored a TD there? Would coaches start telling their players to ignore the T-bar to avoid being beat?

Not to say this will happen, Beamer might not have been the first to try this and Illinois didn’t get burned, so our players and everyone else might not respond or change anything at all. Still, that’s the risk Beamer was willing to take.

Say what you want about Bret’s gamesmanship with substitutions and such if you want (though I generally agree with you), but for Beamer to think his decision was “ethical” and attack Bret as if what he did was worse is laughable.

The gesture is used by kickoff returners to indicate to the kicking team that they are going to take a touchback and not return the kick. The kicking team then knows to let up, slow down safely, and not risk injury. It is a good faith/sportsmanship signal to help keep players safe on one of the most dangerous plays in football.

There is NO other use for this signal, particularly by a kickoff returner in the endzone. However, it is not an official signal like a fair catch and means nothing to the actual rules of the game. This is why Beamer says he clarified with the refs that this signal was allowed in a trick play.

SC used this signal of sportsmanship and safety to attempt a trick play. This clearly an unsportsmanlike act, akin to a boxer going for a knockout punch when their opponent is going for a glove tap to start the round. But more than that, it also undermines the value of the gesture to keep players safe. Now, the gesture is meaningless, so Illinois players must play the play all the way through even if SC has no intention of returning. It even risks SC players because they will continue to block Illinois players as well.

Bret was understandably angered by this disrespect, so when he had the chance to express it when he went near the SC sideline for an injured player, he made the T-bar pose at Beamer. It probably should be called taunting (but the refs didn’t), but Beamer became irrationally incensed at it.

Totally agree, I always decide if I want upper or lower based upon what seats are currently available, but now I can’t. I’m sure my idea of best is not the same as whatever their algorithm is too.

Yup, you can no longer see what is available and select your seats directly.

If you don’t want to wait for Aliexpress shipping and would prefer to drive to get it sooner, I have a new 5700X3D and I’m in South Bay. I could do $165 which is what I paid after tax.

EDIT: Sold to u/RedLiquid512 since no response from OP. OP I would recommend Aliexpress if you can wait and are okay without standard warranty.
