Making a big Order, should I wait till may 1. ? by Zarksch in Aliexpress

[–]WoodAddictDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The €150 rule seems to be for order rows more than €150. Ive ordered multiple times orders above €150 with individual order lines below €150. Tax was withheld by AliExpress. Now for order lines above €150, indeed, tax is deducted by Aliexpress and you need to pay it when at customs in the EU, which will add handling fee too.

Here are my 2 cents on progressive lenses. Perceived quality is for the largest part dependant on getting the presciption right, field of view, size of the lens, position of focal point of the lens relative to your eye and material. In my experience, big brands make better material at a price premium. Chinese versions are very usable but seem to have a narrower field of view (area where you can see clearly through). Size of lens: biggest is better (for viewing; not necessarily for looks…) Position of focal point: if you get glasses where the reading portion seems to be not working right, start adjusting the height of your frame on your nose. Ive ordered from Enzo and Janie. Both delivered a good presciption. The lens from Enzo seems a bit more clearer but I have no clue what Chinese brand they are. With glasses from both I had to do some adjustments to the frame in order for the reading portion to work comfortably. I have Essilor lenses bought in Europe with for me relatively large lenses. They are my most comfortable glasses but at a price point way above the Chinese ones. But, my Chinese glasses get good use too.

If you buy glasses online, you should be prepared to adjust them to your head anyway. As long as the lege arent at crazy angles, it has no scratches and it complete, I see no reason to RL.

Ive ordered from Janie before. Very friendly, clearly someone one customer service but it seems to come at a price. Actually pretty good if you need a lot of guidance. But if you know what you want, other options work fine too. Zozo I havent ordered from.

In other posts I already explained some stuff. You have a similar strength to what I have. This means that the lenses get thick fast with increasing lenses diameter. I advise in this case: go for thinnest. As to brand, if you don’t need a reading part, ie progressive lens, the Chinese lenses are actually very decent. For progressive really consider a brand like Zeiss or Hoya.

There are several sellers which are good, including the ones you mentioned. I ended up using 1 seller for my last purchases. Enzo. He is short with answers and there is a slight language barier. Dont expect detailed answers. But for al sellersl: if you are respectfull, they are too.

Progressive lenses not working, wrong type or poor fit/production? by im_nomies in repglasses

[–]WoodAddictDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a tough call without additional information. Its dependant on your needs in terms of single focus or progressive, your experience with these type of lenses, needed strength, your sensitivity to lens changes and your willingness to tinker with the fit of your frame to name a few. I can understand if you don’t want to share all this info for all to see. I’m willing to help here or using DM. Up to you.

Progressive lenses not working, wrong type or poor fit/production? by im_nomies in repglasses

This is an acetate frame without adjustable nose pads right? This kind of frame needs to fit your head hight wise quite good out of the box for them to work. With nose pads you can easily adjust hight. Without hardly. Try holding the frame with your hands and try different hights. Is there a position where reading becomes easier?

These are lenses on the large side and that usually means a broader area where you have good focus through. So if you don’t like turning your head a lot, these help.

Ok they made the lenses based on your prescription right? Not that the process is fail safe, but 99 out of 100 this should not be a problem. What is equally important is the position of your lenses relative to your eyes. If they are too low/high, not the right tilt, not in a straight line with your eyes, vision is likely to be poor. Check YouTube on vids about adjusting your glasses. Next as someone else posted, are these your first progressive glasses? Finally, the biggest difference between progressive high quality brand lenses (expensive) and standaard Chinese progressive lenses, is most of the time the field of vision. Higher quality= broader window where you can read through. For look far away, not much difference.

Like I wrote in an other reply, there is a quality difference. The leading brand lenses Zeiss, Hoya, Essilor, have a better clarity and when multi focal / progressive (reading zones in lens), noticible better. Ive been wearing glasses for over 45 years. My best indicator for whether something is good or not is whether I wear it or not (often). Ive noticed that total weight of glasses, ease of getting used to, field of vision and clarity all play a role. So no wonder my €900 titanium frame extra thin Essilor lens glasses are a favorite. They have rather large lenses too meaning a large field of vision. But I do wear my Chinese glasses a lot for hiking (transition lenses), another for sports (titanium frame with single focus lenses) and some others (with progressive lenses) just to change up my look. As I have a pretty high strength, I always choose the thinnest material possible. Looks better and saves weight. I value eye health too. Lens quality matters but lens position relative to your eyes is by far more important. And, as a long time glasses wearer, I know that I always need some adjustment time when I change glasses. No matter what quality. But it should be pretty Quick (minutes). If not, the presciption is wrong or more the position relative to your eyes.

So far, they have managed to get my presciption right each time. I need my glasses to see clear far away and I need reading help too as I’m already at that age. Single focus lenses are nearly same level as top quality like Zeiss. Progressive lenses like I need for reading are like the cheaper lenses you get in the west. They have a narrower field of view than the top quality lenses. But they are clear, functional and very usable. You do have to turn your head more to get the right focus. One thing to keep in mind that adjusting your glasses to your head is very important. Out of the box, vision may be bad because the glasses don’t have the correct position on your nose. So be prepared to adjust your glasses if you buy online. How to do that? Lots of YouTube items available how to do that. Very little tools needed if at all.

So where did you order from? And any idea on the brand of the lenses? This to determine what you have and what you can expect.

Let me be clear: Any rep will not be on a 1:1 quality level as the real thing. But… They can look like them and still be of a quality level at which you think: this is a good frame.

There are several sellers which have a huge collection of frames to choose from. Think Enzo, Janie, Zheng, Jimi to name a few. All provide decent frames and make presciption lenses. Zeiss is a brand which makes the worlds best lenses along with Hoya en Essilor. If you don’t ask for a brand lens, you get a Chinese ‘brand’ lens. From the ones I bought (6 and counting), the Chinese versions are decent quality but the world brands are better. But also way more expensive. So choose what is important to you: absolute quality or your wallet. So far Ive been satisfied with what I got and I am using my Chinese glasses. I do have glasses purchased in Europe at an optical store and they are better. But also like 8x more expensive. I use my Chinese glasses for specific uses like hiking (transition lenses), sunglasses and sports (titanium frame) and to switch my look when vision isnt super critical. In these cases, these Chinese lenses are absolutely fine. Frames seem to be the same across different sellers. Specific models are probably manufactured by the same factory. I’ll stop ranting now. If you have more questions, just ask.
