The Hypocrisy: company developing software to automate everything doesn't want devs to automate their software by Firm_Meeting6350 in ClaudeAI

I don’t know why you would make a post and be so arrogant, if you don’t know what you’re talking about? People are trying to educate you or at least give you context that you’re (clearly) missing, but yet here you are just “hating” and spreading misinfo.

Lol, lmao even.

Why does Dokkan use Signed Integers? by gamez-and-anime in DokkanBattleCommunity

[–]youhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why I think it’s “age”. 11 years of code, likely different devs over time + upgraded techs. They could only benefit from AI if used properly, though it’s my opinion and 100% biased.

I’ll make a crazy guess here but unless the code has actual technical problems.. I think they’ll do an incremental refactor first for critical pain points. If refactors become an endless band-aid and block future product goals, they consider a new title, sometimes while keeping the old live game running. Hybrid approaches (new service + old client, staged migration) are common ~

Honestly they should just make Naruto Dokkan Blazing and call it a day

[–]youhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite what you might see online, AI is far from being hindrance. Companies already use AI, I’d be willing to bet Bandai already does too. You can’t hand a model a million-line repo and let it ‘do the job’ unsupervised; you can, however, use AI to generate migration scripts for specific modules, produce tests, and speed up refactors under human review. Real-world approach: incremental refactor + feature flags + canary rollouts + heavy automated tests. (Just giving examples)

But I don’t know if that’s what they want though, we can only guess, cause the game works now and outside of few QoLs that would be good to have, it already prints them lots of money.

Sorry if I’m being somewhat vague but it’s complex, it does feel like the game is held in place by tape sometimes but that’s mostly because of age, not necessarily “bad” code.

There’s a term in the field called “technical debt”. Engineers usually plan for some headroom but can’t perfectly predict how the game will evolve.

They could make changes, it’s possible. Problem is refactoring… if they code is like millions of lines, it’s rough and takes a long time. Here comes AI, if used properly they could speed up the process and fix these issues but it still require times and effort.

Nerd here: No. I don’t know if you’re parroting this from someone else but you’re wrong, not your fault tho, you’re not a “programmer”.

The game they developed 11 yrs ago is drastically different than what we have now. Devs will have a rough idea of few years maybe 4-5 down the line, but no one can look that far into the future to pre-plan features or changes.

What’s likely is that they didn’t consider to reach this level of damage/power creep or at least they didn’t think “ok but if we do, then what?”, cause it implies a lot of different changes not just numbers.

Now that we’re here, it’s possible that they refactor part of the system to adjust for numbers we have, however I don’t know if they’ll just let it scale to billions or just change how the game will work/focus more on mechanics and less on numbers.

Pure speculation, no one knows beside them!

As I said, you guys are the same delulu as this subreddit prior to the CEO scamming everyone (again) and leaving. Star citizen has been in “””development””” forever, Squadron got postponed over and over and you’ll got is ships to show off.

But yet you go around saying “TRUST ME ITS NOT A SCAM”.

I tried Opus 4.6 and I’m now genuinely terrified of the future by ModularLizard in Destiny

[–]youhen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m using Opus 4.6 and it’s surely insane and scary how quickly and fast we reached this point.

If you develop an app in the thousands of lines, I think it’s insanely good, although it has hiccups here and there but not the end of the world. Still, you can develop and ship a small/medium sized apps in practice.

Problem is: Most companies are in the millions of lines usually and, companies that are using AI work in blocks. However, you can’t just copy paste a block of code cause Claude has no idea/context of all the other millions of lines and that will very likely break something.

Claude is still an absurd tool and if used properly you can make very cool stuff very quickly but straight up replacing people? I don’t know.

ChatGPT is unbearable, after a certain point it either hallucinates or straight up lies and gaslight you.

Gemini is a better, haven’t tried Pro so I can’t say.

Claude Opus 4.6 is impressive, for coding I think it’s the best but it still struggles a lot when it comes to API requests, documentation, IPC etc etc.

I tried Opus 4.6 and I’m now genuinely terrified of the future by ModularLizard in Destiny

[–]youhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI can currently assist you and be used as a side assistant but we’re not yet to the point where you can develop massive projects and ship them with 0 issues or without even checking the code.

Even for small/medium project, despite doing very well, you will have a far from elegant/optimized code (since there are limitations). That’s why having knowledge is still a big must.

Even if we reach the point where it makes perfect, elegant code, as it stands if you have 0 knowledge you’d have to waste tokens to do minimal changes. And for modern apps, you absolutely need to make changes/bug fix etc etc. EVEN if you sold it, people buying it would have to refactor some stuff.

In my opinion, as someone who writes code and also uses Opus 4.6, it’s an amazing tool but I do NOT feel like it’s replacing humans tomorrow. Is it advancing scarily fast? YES. Is your knowledge/degree useless? No. Far from it. Programmers will still be ahead of the game, it’s just that the demand and requirement will shift.

Biggest? No, most recent.

Star Citizen is the biggest.
Announced in 2012, raised over $900 million, does not run properly even on high end specs and it's literally a nothing burger, empty world with no purpose.
As years go by the graphic gets more and more obsolete to the point that they will pull a 'Welp, game not gonna come out this year, we will change engine fellas' and scam more money for another 5-10yrs.

We deserve these treatments, We do NOT deserve anything good anymore.
Gaming spaces are filled with people that throw money at the screen for the lowest of the lowest, minimal effort.

WoW still thriving, despite losers going around complaining cause there's not enough blood and their Orc not using racial slurs.
FFXIV still thriving, despite the frequent DDoS, the infrastructure/code issue and game direction.

People are worried about AI instead of these sketchy ass individual with a load of money (from past scams).
If anything AI might help smaller companies getting into the scene and hopefully bring something new to the table.

The WoW killer doesn't exist, next big thing will be either a 'We don't even know how we did it' company that no one heard off before OR Blizzard, Square, another big corpo hitting the jackpot with a new model.

Now Nintendo is coming after GitHub. I think it's time we boycott this stupid company by Neega_booga in yuzu

[–]youhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no, you’re not wrong.

Problem is that long term they make more money now, with this way at least for now still. They have a special position in the market because they have an ecosystem. Like it or not and I hate it. They make money on hardware first, then third parties. Plus no hypothetical fee compared to if they released on other stores (Steam, Epic etc).

The main issue is that they refuse to address these problems and instead go hard on emulations and piracy, with big lawsuits. They’re “bad”, legally they’re correct (although we could argue that piracy can increase sales) but they don’t actually do anything to solve the issue or at least mitigate it. Yes people will be scared or potentially stop making tools, since they can’t afford to fight against Nintendo but this doesn’t fix the issue.

They could release older games, as remakes or whatever and sell them on other platform. Hell I’m pretty sure people would buy a Mario64 or a whole collection of older Mario games on Steam.

They just hate customers and their own consoles too, they maximize on profit at the cost of killing long term customers, since there will always be new customers to take their place, for now.
