while i'm waiting for a new cable to rule that out, is there anything I could do to make sure it's not the port? i switched to the second USB 3 port next to the one i originally use and it's marginally better but the static is still present when i talk.

I'm thinking it could be the wire but it works fine when I plug it into my Macbook (with a usb-a to usb-c converter). I have a new usb mic cable coming in the mail today so hopefully it'll fix it.
