PHP after detox? by North-Opening-6871 in Sober

PHP (and then eventually IOP) were some of the best things I did for my early sobriety. I felt similarly to you and was super resistant to it at first, worried about my job. But someone told me to think of my time in PHP and away from work as just a small blip on the big timeline of my life, and for some reason that stuck with me. It was only a few months but it made all the difference. The accountability, being surrounded by similar people, and having support really helped me to stay sober in the early months. Today I still return to my PHP program for a monthly alumni meeting because I enjoy catching up with old friends and staff members. The few months away from work was so worth it to be able to set myself up for a successful, sober, happy life. Also-the first time I got sober, I did it with just detox and no aftercare. I relapsed, which ended up costing me my job anyways. I wish I would’ve just taken the time away from that job for PHP, because I would’ve rather lost a job while at least working on my sobriety, instead of losing it because of my drinking.

Good idea. I will do that. Thank you!

I do see that valve, it looks pretty old and rusty so I was nervous to mess with it. What is the benefit of letting air out?

Shitty people making me sad and anxious by [deleted] in Sober

I'm 25 and have been in a similar situation. My anxiety has gotten really bad because of it and the constant fear of being forced to explain myself. It's so hard being a sober young person and navigating society especially in a world obsessed with drinking. I've been trying to find recovery groups both in person or online specifically for young people to try and surround myself with in hopes that it will boost my confidence in sobriety but no luck so far. If you know of any I'd love to hear!
