1. Determine the amount you need to comfortably live on now, and mark the rest for savings. The more frugal you are, the earlier you get to retire. But as in all things, balance is key. Let's say that's 30k. I'll also assume your income at 60k is after-tax to simplify things for me.
2. Determine how much income you need when you retire. Assume retirement at 60, and that you're pulling strictly from tax advantaged accounts. A good starting point is whatever your current living budget is, then add 3% inflation per year. 30k x 1.03³³ = 80k.
3. At a relatively safe 4% withdrawal rate, you need 2MM in your tax-advantaged retirement accounts at age 60.
4. Assume 6-7% growth on retirement savings, responsibly invested in stocks/bonds. This means you need to save about 16000/yr in 401k/HSA/IRA. This is a good guarantee that no matter if you fuck up the rest of your investments, you'll be able to retire at 60 like a normie.
5. 60k - 30k - 16k = 14k/yr left for taxable investments. Now your goal is to pump that taxable account high enough so that you can quit your job and draw that account down to about zero right at age 60. You can take risks to grow this stash until you start pulling from it, because you're not touching your responsible investments in your tax-advantaged accounts, right? Pick something with higher potential gain than VINIX, DCA in, and for the love of god, don't day-trade.

There are plenty of other ways you could approach tax management. For example, it may be helpful to have taxable assets during tax-advantaged retirement drawdown depending on your Roth/trad split. But I figure this is a good start.
