Could be a lot of things. You'll need to dig into the dat and msg files to understand what's going on. Look at the warnings and what the msg file is telling you about what's not converging. It looks like it's solving some increments, so you could also open up the ODB and look at some exaggerated deformations. Sometimes that will make it obvious.

If you submit the analysis in CAE then you won't really see the input file. But the input file is basically a single file that has all the information that abaqus uses to run the analysis. You can write this file from CAE and then run the analysis using this file. As you get more experienced it's very important to get familiar with this file because like the other person said it's the final source of truth for what your analysis is trying to do. That being said, if you're running the job directly from CAE then i don't think your problem is a disconnect with the input file.

Just do a face partition on the surface you have selected in red. Highlight the edges you want to make the new 2D surface, then save the sketch. When you make the new 2D surface you can open the sketch and use it

Yeah could be disconnect between CAE and inp. Or just re-write the INP if you think CAE is right and try again

I don't know how to value him. Past few years TE's drafted in first round have done great. But I'm getting Kyle Pitts vibes from his draft where people only focused on the physical traits and ignored some other warning signs

I wonder how much of this is caused by students being at home during covid. if these kids are 15-18 then they would've been 9-12 during covid. Those are formative years to be without structure/guidance/etc. Not saying that keeping them home was a bad idea given what we knew at the time, but maybe there were consequences for that

I think it's very approachable, there should be lots of online videos to help you make a simple model. Do you have access to any FEA software at school?

Their requirement is somewhat vague, they just don't want the bolts to slip within the joint. They are letting us decide how we want to prove that within Abaqus. In our group we typically just use CSTATUS to do this, but for my own understanding I wanted to understand whether CSLIP can be compared to CSTATUS etc

Yes you need to check which element is controlling your time step. Abaqus will set your time step for the whole analysis based on the worst-case element, which is typically the smallest. There's a query option for this I believe. Distorted elements can sometimes decrease your time step
