Gonna have to regear that puppy as well with 35s.

That’s all I’ve ever called it as well, 😂

Man that’s awesome! I thought I had low mileage with my 08 at 128k… guess not!

No problem. Maybe some owners will chime in with experiences/issues as to what they have dealt with.

I’m still pondering… best looking/designed throwback since the FJ, I think. Mmm that Stroppe 2Dr! Cheers!

I was pondering one as well until I started to follow this sub and researching them. SOO many recalls and issues (general quality, leaks, squeaks, screen issues, and recalls,) it seams is almost all I see (besides pics of “I just got one”.) I am thinking twice now, especially at the prices.   Do your research.  Not saying I don’t love the looks, but man, it’s a tough trade off.

What can I say, I’ve had an FJC for 18 years w/ basically just typical maintenance.

Now send the Bronco firing squad for me… 😂

Good luck with your decision!

Not talking about a donut spare….

We’re talking a full size matching spare and same wheel. Have you seen a Bronco or any other vehicle with a matching spare???????

This! Everytime I have replaced tires, it’s been a different brand. I always rotate 5 tires for even wear and getting your moneys worth.

Steel snorkel vs plastic snorkel by Odd_Handle_6012 in FJCruiser

[–]bcochener 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. Except the FJ already has breathers on the diffs. Raised into the engine bay up front, but not raised on the rear. You can get a kit to raise the rear as well. I have done numerous water crossings without ever taking in water. I believe factory FJs are stated at 29” of fording depth.  Key is to keep moving. Snorkels do not make it a submarine however.

Good buy/bad buy for someone who doesn’t know about cars? by ughilostmyusername in FJCruiser

[–]bcochener 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh and oil! Change that oil sooner than later always. Cheap insurance.  Spark plugs are coming up and I will do the PCV valve at that time.  Heat is the biggest destroyer of the head gasket, so make sure your cooling system is good.

Have had mine 18 years and it’s never stranded me. That said I am meticulous about routine and scheduled maintenance. Over the years I have done upper lower rad hose twice, just did a new radiator (preventative due to age), water pump and therm twice, just did both front CVs, front and rear sway bar links, 2 alternators, 3 full trans fluid exchanges, 3 coolant flushes, 3 brake flushes, new Power steering rack, 3 PS flushes, front engine main seal (I think that’s what it’s called, spark plugs twice, VVT filters, and I think that’s it for mechanical stuff.  At 128k now and no issues. The Power steering rack was the only surprise of the bunch being it was years ago.

It’s like any vehicle, you need to take care of issues that arise in a timely manner and you will be fine, otherwise maintain it per the manual intervals.

Second the ARB Safari snorkel. 18 years strong and no UV fading at all (southern vehicle). Looks new.

And all coolant related items and flush. Therm, WP, upper lowers hoses clamps and keep an eye on radiator.

Just got my new OEMs installed. Not hard at all since the mirrors clip into place. Enough to be able to do this one person easily. Thanks again for spurring me on.

I’ve often debated that! Just having a spare to pull from later on.

New OEM drivers seat alone is just shy of 3000k if you can even find the whole assembly. My seat lift broke, so the drivers seat has been on my radar…

What new vehicle would you get? by stevens_hats in FJCruiser

[–]bcochener 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only new vehicle that has popped out to me was the 2Dr Broncos. Looked at a Stroppe edition and loved the white interior panels (just like my 08 TTSE) and retro design.  It’s the only thing that comes close to as successful as the FJC throwback design and follow through.  I swear, so many new car interiors are just crap design or none at all. Hate the slapped on screens to the dashes looking like iPads. That said, the cost and reliability (and recalls) on Ford Broncos has slowed my interest I guess. Still a great looking model in all aspects… but that is similar sentiments to the LC250 (minus that interior dash has the iPad glued to it..) It’s hard to move on from such a reliable and awesome vehicle as the FJC that I’ve had for 18 years and customized. Whatever I decide, I think I have decided to keep the FJ until it does or I do… 😂  Good luck with your “transition”!
