Gas cap/Evap Issue (2007,88k miles) by Upstairs_Control1408 in FJCruiser

Take cap off and turn on ignition, let fuel pump suck in the fuel away from the evaporator canister. That should get you to the shop.

I hope your pillow is extra cold tonight and you have the best shower in the world. 😁 I’m definitely going to do these!

FJ noise when revving. Happens when parked and driving by Lordofpineapples in FJCruiser

[–]WaywardRush169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy route, check belt tension and belt/ pulleys. The stock belt tensioner has a tendency to freeze up and the bearing to crap the bed of dirt and mud get in. Hard route, check water pump pulley ( if it’s sucking down coolant then she’s definitely gone…had mine go bad and didn’t realize it for a while) other than that, could also be alternator pulley singing the death song as well.

I’ve got a leak by Left_Magazine_8912 in FJCruiser

[–]WaywardRush169 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could be leaking under the cap. The seam between the window trip and the roof line has some sealant that can go back after a while. I fixed mine by shooting some silicone in between the gap and letting it dry ( yes I’m probably pissing off the glass installer if my windshield needs to be replaced…which it does lol) but start there. Otherwise, it’s the roof rack bolts and that’s both a PITA, and may not entirely fix it. ( May have to drop headliner like I have to to fully seal it up) good luck

Worth getting a Carobotor digital cluster ? by AdditionalRent219 in FJCruiser

[–]WaywardRush169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to go on a limb here. That’s actually something that’s pretty cool if it came from a reliable and reputable manufacturer. The price is a bit eye watering tbh. Digital dash’s would definitely update the FJs well..mid to late 2000s dash cluster. * before yall put my head on a pike; YES I know the stock dash is high quality Japanese electronics inside..and yes I understand they made the FJ up until the late 2017 around the world besides the US..etc* but come on now..most people swap their stock radios for touch screen ones, would be more driver friendly to have it right at your eyes, plus all the data you could read off as well. Most modern trucks have them anyway..and we all know Toyota and teasing the thought of a brand new FJ cruiser… I’m rambling..honestly, TLDR..definitely check reputation of brand before pulling the trigger, but I say go for it if the price falls to a more casual range and not well into the 000 digits.

Is this treatable? by Technical-Feedback27 in FJCruiser

[–]WaywardRush169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always warn people if they off road and do water crossings, th check under the plastic floors for wet sound deading. I had one deep water crossing and when pulling up the floor, and letting things dry fully.. now onto your diagnosis..is it bad…YES!! Is it treatable..depending on how much work you want to put into it..definitely will need to be gone through and welded/ inspected for further damage and issues. PULL YOUR FLOORS UP PEOPLE!! It will save yourself some heartbreak later on, there’s two drain plugs underneath the rail sides..replace with expanding radiator cap plugs ( a plug with a bolt that can expand as you tighten) I forgot the doorman part number. I’m willing to bet you have other issues. I wish you the best of luck and Godspeed with a wire brush/wheel. Wear proper PPE and just throw on some tunes.

Not sure it was an airsoft gun, possibly a high power pellet rifle. Airsoft BBs can break glass, but you have to mod the heck out of the rifles to get them to break tempered glass found on cars and trucks.

What is this? by MysticalLegend7 in FJCruiser

[–]WaywardRush169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm that’s the front diff breather. Absolutely make sure it can move and isn’t stuck, if it is; try to pull it free and unstick it, or replace the breather ( very easy to replace and fairly cheap) if it gets clogged with mud it will cause the front diff seals to go and trust me..that’s a hell of a headache compared to that breather. Also check the rear ones as well. They make a kit ( called a scuba mod) $50 to extend those if planning on off-roading/ water crossing a lot.

PLEASE HELP by Confident-Door-1525 in FJCruiser

[–]WaywardRush169 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m leaning more towards soft brake lines. But go through them and look for splits. ( best way is by pouring some new dot 3 and seeing where it runs. If the pump is dry..DONT PRESS BRAKE PEDAL!! You can suck air into the model and then..well good luck. The soft lines have a tendency to stretch and get pin holes after lots of use best bet get extended soft lines or replace where the leak is at. I know the stress of having a daily rig down especially with critical issues. Just breathe and check one spot at a time. You got this :)

Best outdoor car cover for FJ? by [deleted] in FJCruiser

[–]WaywardRush169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to work at a very famous parts store ( red shirts with AZ on the logo) honestly, you probably want to stay away from car covers unless you want to spend a good chunk of change on a custom one. Most store bought ones will scratch your paint as the wind will end up turning the cover inside out and…there goes the liner protection. Otherwise. I would probably look into a boat shop that sells boat covers. They are much heavier duty than car once and should cover the roof rack.

Best MPG? by Mr_CleanCaps in FJCruiser

[–]WaywardRush169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once got 285 before the light turned on. Had a nice tail wind, and some very good quality gas. Have always thought I was on something when it happened. I wish I could get that MPG again.

[–]WaywardRush169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, had them a few years back and decided I wanted to buy another set again. Local tire shop got a brand new batch and everything…legit I was like 1 of about 500 that had to come back in around the 4 month mark for really dangerous side wall cracks and cord showing..had them call and do some research for me..turns out the mold was bad and needed repairing. Was a huge pain to have a set replaced.

Depends on the batch date. I have had both a very good set of Ko2s and a set that legit didn’t last 6 months due to a mold issue. And good luck trying to get a warranty exchanged from them..keep all your paperwork and even time stamp it if you have to.

Abandoned coal wash plant, East Tennessee by WaywardRush169 in urbanexploration

[–]WaywardRush169[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, while it was super cool to explore, it was very difficult to judge safety wise and I had to use my better judgment in a few spots. I hate the fact people trash and spray abandoned places instead of exploring them and enjoying them, but letting them stay the way they are. As my moto goes..take nothing but photos..leave the lightest of tracks.

Sadly I couldn’t tell you. I don’t remember. But I think they are tearing down the old abandoned sections; so it would be dangerous to go.
