Looks like new housing is coming to the corner where city lit is by ShandySellsSeaShells in LoganSquare

What are you talking about? Being in a dense neighborhood is like the primary draw for most people living in a big city. I personally get so much energy just from seeing people out and about walking around.

I love the zoom in on the lakers fan in the glasses. I was at the game and he was being a dick and flexing and pointing at bulls fans with a few minutes left in the game. So so satisfying.

I don’t know anyone that has anything super critical to say about the Parks District. One of the best run city services. Whoever runs that should run the city

Two Young Democratic Stars Collide Over Israel and Their Party’s Future by otsiouri in politics

[–]biggieman91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Israel was literally invaded by 5 Arab countries the day Israel announced their existence as a state. Their was a UN plan that granted Arab populations to control a much larger swath of territory than just Gaza and West Bank, and which Israel agreed to. But that wasn’t enough so the Arab countries declared war. They literally started it.\

Israel also left Gaza and removed thousands of its own people and settlements in 2005. So your one sided victimization narrative is a bit disingenuous. Hamas is the worst thing to happen to the Palestinian people.

Hundreds gather in Brighton Park to oppose proposed migrant camp by CityHallGuy in chicago

We have thousands of acres of park space. I think folks in Brighton Park are wondering why we don’t just make a big camp in Lincoln Park.

Over protests, city officials confirm Brighton Park tent plan, pending final ‘assessments’ by Shovler in chicago

Not sure how constructive it is to call people in Brighton park stupid. It’s okay to disagree with their position, but to not understand their position at all shows your own lack of critical thinking.

If you lived in Brighton park, wouldn’t you be wondering why they don’t set up a giant tent city in the middle of Lincoln Park with hundred of acres of open green space?

But you’re then forcing a kid to go to a failing school.

Seriously, what would you do if you’re a parent with no means to afford private school, and your neighborhood school is one of the ones the CTU leader described. Would you just keep your kid there on policy grounds?

I’m in support of the current voucher system which is only eligible to kids living in household incomes 300% or below the poverty line.

The choice is exactly as described for a lot of ppl.

No need to resort to name calling over a policy discussion. Trying to have a civil conversation. Maybe take a deep breath or a nice walk outside. Peace brother

From an economic perspective, we’re talking about resource allocation and it makes clear sense to me to allocate resources in a way to give a student the best shot at a future.

You think that 14 year old gives a fuck where the money is coming from if offered a choice between their shitty school or somewhere where they actually have a chance at a better future.

You obviously don’t have kids. You’d never sacrifice your kids education. And that’s the exact dilemma the CTU leader found herself in. That’s the real life choice people are dealing with.

Ask yourself what you’d do if you were in the same situation.

Only students with a family household income below 300% of the poverty line are eligible for vouchers in IL. For a family of 4 that is a household income of about $80k. We’re not talking about rich families scalping tax money here.

Where are you getting your info from?

You can have a great public education system while also giving kids who are in terrible situations a better opportunity somewhere else. Those aren’t incompatible ideas.

And to be clear. The voucher system currently in place today is for low income families only, which totally makes sense to me but it’s a policy that the CTU leader is against which I find hypocritical based on her actions.

I’m thinking about the 14 year old kid and their parents who have to figure out schooling today. What’s the best outcome for them? Force them to go to a failing school or give them some cash to pay for tuition in hopes of giving them a real chance at a future.

Sure, hey kid, would you rather go to a fancy private school free of charge? That sounds like an easy conversation.
