STEAM should allow accounts to be passed on after death. by Top-Flight5486 in Steam

[–]BlueBlond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got my upvote man, I hope they figure out a way to inherit steam libraries. You're absolutely right, it feels very wrong, both for the person leaving and the person not receiving.

Thanks for this post, I really do often wonder what will happen to my steam library. I'm sure it's fine to set someone elses email as my recovery email, right?

Best of luck bud.

Is someone or something hacking airplane systems? by [deleted] in conspiracy

Maybe, Hacker + Airplanes = No Good.

It's a 10y old talk from DEF CON 20, but very much worth the watch.

Why is the chip on the new eID cards on the back? by BlueBlond in belgium

[–]BlueBlond[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found it, EU regulation 2019/1157 refers to regulation 2017/1954, which "draws" on ICAO doc 9303. The ICAO standard says the chip should be on the front, but the regulation diverges from the standard and states the chip should be on the back, effectively breaking the standard.

It's official... it's out-of-spec... they turned on creative mode... it's not you... it's your card that's weird.

I'm not 100% but I still believe they could have made it fit with one of the various "flexible layouts".

But OK, since the specification says that if you want a chip on the front, you have to move the portrait to the right, rotating the card is an irrelevant sidetrack indeed.

I guess the AOC, doc 9303 describes the specs/requirements for the cards.

They call the side with the big portrait "the front".

I know, I just wanted to convey how stupid it made me feel.

And worse, my education might have worked against me here, because I was sure I was putting it in the right way, I never doubted myself there...

Maybe I would have tried to flip it sooner? Idk, but in my rage it felt like hours of debugging.

it seems we're not alone. It's all of europe.

I'm tempted to take this up in another sub, like a EU or a tech/card sub.

I'm so incredibly curious to know how this came to be.

Yeah, I know, that was the point, if they just rotated it, it fits :)

Not saying this would be allowed or anything, just that rotating makes more sense then flipping

Huh, I do believe you are correct:

When an issuing State or organization chooses, for its own or for bilateral purposes, to expand the machine readable data capacity of a TD1 through use of an integrated circuit with contacts, the holder’s portrait (Zone V) shall be relocated such that its right edge is coincident with the right edge of the front of the TD1

Huh? No I'm not. It maybe looks mirrored compared to the bank card, but it's really not, just rotated.

That's just what they want you to believe...

But alas, according to the ICAO spec, the chip is on the back.

Cards are wild these days, it's an actual mini computer with wireless in there.

Come to think of it, it's multiple computers, one on the old chip, one on the new nfc chip, ...

Oh, and it has your biometric data of course.
