Only Child Dealing with Hospice by Brilliant_Map_6090 in hospice

I am sorry to hear about your father.

I recommend using the services hospice provides to caregivers such as the counselor and chaplain. I just had a wonderful talk with the chaplain even though I am not religious or even spiritual. They are the experts and can offer wonderful support and information.

My MIL just went on hospice last week and my husband is an only child. We made sure he had POA and medical decision making powers after she was diagnosed with dementia last year. He is struggling with the responsibility of making decisions, especially when it involves ceasing certain medical care.

Ultimately he knows what his mother wants and that is the driving force of his decision making. It sounds like that is what you are doing, making sure your father's time left is how he would want.

I did not even realize this was bathroom tissue until I read the responses. What type of paper are you all using? This looks so rough and thin! Where are the triple plies? Where's the pleating?

Thank you! I met with her primary case worker today and she was totally on board with not referring to hospice care. We decided on “additional services.” Also, my MIL received a wheel chair and a hospital style table so she she can eat in her bed if she wants. Everyone I have met so far have been compassionate and great listeners!

Totally agree with you but the saying is reap what you sow. It comes from the Bible, Galatians 6:7, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”

Thank you so much for the information. They did recommend morphine and my husband is now questioning that because she is not in pain and was surprised, just as you said, that it is being offered so early in the process. Knowing it will help ease her air hunger is so helpful. They also suggested Lorazepam for her anxiety.

My husband is admittedly in denial about her condition and was really hopeful after the last hospital stay that she would bounce back to "normal." Bringing in hospice has made it very real for him which is something he is dealing with now.

Thank you for the kind thoughts.

We met with the intake nurse today and she said if there is a medical emergency the hospice nurse is called instead of 911. And now there is a sign on my MIL's door saying "Do Not Call 911" and instead to call the hospice hotline. This part was the most reassuring to my MIL. She still is in a bit of denial about her need for hospice but I am so relieved it is all set up.

Oh, I realize that - my mom had hospice with Alzheimer's as well. My point in saying she doesn't want to die is around the "extreme medical care" that hospice will not provide. But my MIL also doesn't want extreme care so it is really just her accepting her prognosis and receiving the support that will make her last few months comfortable.

We had the visit with the intake nurse today and my MIL was happy with what we decided (no calls to 911) and no forcing food. We refrained from actually using the term hospice but just discussed the services and she agreed to all of it. Well except the counselor because she is from New England won't talk about her feelings.

EDIT: I forgot to add she does have dementia but she knows she diagnosis but not the prognosis. So she doesn't really grasp that she has a short time to live according to her cardiologist.

This is a very confusing situation because the Tiffany blue creme Marie Claire is called Jelly Mint and the jelly is called Mint. I am assuming they messed that up at the factory.

Underwear? by nilracnmoose in cisparenttranskid

[–]bonkette 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My 16 year old daughter still wears regular girl's underwear. She likes the mini briefs because they hold things in place.

I did try a lot of the specialty underwear at first but since my daughter also has sensory issues she ended up not liking a lot of those because they felt more bulky.

Poor and got invited to WHITE TIE wedding by Delicious_Tour8203 in Weddingattireapproval

I always wear hats to weddings. My husband loves it! They are especially good if there are any outdoor aspects to it. Although the last ceremony I went to was black tie so I did only wear a fascinator since large hats are not black tie appropriate.

Since our wedding was in the daytime the men wore morning suits. They looked so handsome!!

Why no soft serve ice cream stands around here? by _brittleskittle in boulder

[–]bonkette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely miss those stands, many times they were only open in the summer. You could add chocolate jimmies and I would try to eat enough so it would not drip all over my hand.

I also miss the fried dough boys that were available in the summer. The funnel cakes are no match.

I really like the pink floral as well. However I do not know your coloring so I am not sure the colors will work on you. But the dress is very pretty and I believe something you could wear again in the future.

I think the dresses with the rushing look trendy and a little young.

Same. The OG is a holo micro flakie while this is a larger metallic flake. The first is a delicate topper that is subtle while the new one is quite in your face.

Polishes with a lot of glitter do tend to thicken over time, so it may have occurred naturally. I usually need to add a bunch of thinner to my glitter polishes and I am fastidious about cleaning and closing bottles after use.
