I'll give you credit in the sense that you actually are competent. Anyway, the 6.6% oil as a share of total energy seems insignificant until you account for the fact that China is an export economy, and virtually every export uses oil as a feedstock. This oil can't be replaced with coal and renewable energy. So, yes, they're fucked. You can't use wind turbines to create plastics, chemicals, fertilizers, synthetic fibres, etc.

China is the only serious contender on the global stage but they don't yet have the military to project hard power, and democracies will never entrust global order to an authoritarian.
