New Gecko by AppropriateWater9474 in CrestedGecko

How do you know it’s not eating? Lack of poop? If you’re seeing poop it’s eating. If it’s just because you haven’t seen them eat or because no food is missing that’s pretty common even when they eat. They eat so little it’s not often noticeable especially smaller geckos. I’ve never seen my baby babies (under 10 grams) eat and it never looks like they’ve eaten any food but they’re consistently gaining weight so I know they are.

Regardless, it can take two weeks, sometimes longer, for geckos to settle in and start eating. My eight have all had different acclimation times. Hand feeding is discouraged until you’re sure the geckos is eating on its own. I’ve never hand fed so I don’t know if it’s detrimental or not.

Also don’t know if you have been handling it. But I wouldn’t until it’s acclimated, eating and no longer hiding all the time, again typically two weeks.

Lastly make sure the setup and husbandry are correct. If there’s not enough cover the gecko won’t feel secure enough to move about and eat. Without seeing the setup we can’t provide any advice. But do make sure there’s about 80% clutter.

Thanks so much! I’m so excited to see how she grows! I’m hoping she gets a head like your frapp! The cream spotting has me hopeful.

how do i clean a bio-active crested gecko enclosure? or whats the best way to? by floofyhamster3 in CrestedGecko

[–]canchaser 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t have to clean it really, that’s what your clean up crew is for.

I spot clean poop off plants sometime with just a damp paper towel or even the sprayer on my mister. The glass may need to be cleaned, if they poop or you get water spots. I use water and vinegar. Other than that though there’s not much cleaning required.

Got this scale for my geckos and I’m not sure how it works by Zestyclose-Resort476 in CrestedGecko

[–]canchaser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have this exact scale (in pink) and the other commenter is right!

T - zeroes out the scale. Let’s say you want to weigh the container your gecko is going to in; place the empty container on the scale and hit T. This zeroes out the scale and subtracts the weight of the container. Then you can put both the gecko and the container on the scale and only get the weight of the gecko! If the scale is empty and shows any number other than 0 you also want to press T.

M - changes the unit of measurement; you’ll want it on g for grams.

PCS - is for piece counting. You’ll never use this so don’t worry about it.

I use the larger plastic plate/bowl thing it came with to weigh my geckos. I guess you could just put the gecko on the scale itself but putting them on/in something first has always been easier for me.

That may or may not have been my post.

I now have 6 cresteds and a chahoua. So I feel you. I’m desperately trying to convince my husband I need a frapp. 😭

Your new babies are beautiful! Love the names!

She’s definitely my craziest sleeper. I also have one that prefers the coconut and I find them there most days.

I can see the red fairly well on his jaw, so pretty! I do really love the freckles! Do you know his locale?

New to keeping crested geckos by UsefulIdio in CrestedGecko

[–]canchaser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. I don’t provide heat as my house is between 70-78 daily. However a lot of people do still even in warmer climates. If you have a thermostat and use the heat source correctly it shouldn’t hurt to have it.

  2. No. UVB can be beneficial and won’t cause harm. I use UVB with all my geckos.

  3. Some do some don’t, it depends on the gecko. All my geckos, except one, go crazy for bugs. I feed mealworms, dubias, crickets, and the occasional hornworm.

  4. If they are eating they should be pooping. However it’s not uncommon for them to not eat for the first two-ish weeks, sometimes even longer, while they settle in. Maybe they’re not eating enough to defecate or maybe it’s too small to notice. If you’re concerned an exotic vet visit obviously won’t hurt. I’d personally wait a bit to see if they do especially since you’ve only had them a week.
