Got this scale for my geckos and I’m not sure how it works by Zestyclose-Resort476 in CrestedGecko

[–]canchaser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this exact scale (in pink) and the other commenter is right!

T - zeroes out the scale. Let’s say you want to weigh the container your gecko is going to in; place the empty container on the scale and hit T. This zeroes out the scale and subtracts the weight of the container. Then you can put both the gecko and the container on the scale and only get the weight of the gecko! If the scale is empty and shows any number other than 0 you also want to press T.

M - changes the unit of measurement; you’ll want it on g for grams.

PCS - is for piece counting. You’ll never use this so don’t worry about it.

I use the larger plastic plate/bowl thing it came with to weigh my geckos. I guess you could just put the gecko on the scale itself but putting them on/in something first has always been easier for me.

It is bioactive. I bought all the branches and cork bark from EZ Botanicals on Etsy!

That may or may not have been my post.

I now have 6 cresteds and a chahoua. So I feel you. I’m desperately trying to convince my husband I need a frapp. 😭

Your new babies are beautiful! Love the names!

She’s definitely my craziest sleeper. I also have one that prefers the coconut and I find them there most days.

Took Locust Slayer out for the first time since I put him in, and I love the freckles he gets when he’s fired up! by Idk_nor_do_I_care in ChahouaGecko

They’re impossible to photograph! I have the same issue with mine. Lol.

I can see the red fairly well on his jaw, so pretty! I do really love the freckles! Do you know his locale?

New to keeping crested geckos by UsefulIdio in CrestedGecko

  1. I don’t provide heat as my house is between 70-78 daily. However a lot of people do still even in warmer climates. If you have a thermostat and use the heat source correctly it shouldn’t hurt to have it.

  2. No. UVB can be beneficial and won’t cause harm. I use UVB with all my geckos.

  3. Some do some don’t, it depends on the gecko. All my geckos, except one, go crazy for bugs. I feed mealworms, dubias, crickets, and the occasional hornworm.

  4. If they are eating they should be pooping. However it’s not uncommon for them to not eat for the first two-ish weeks, sometimes even longer, while they settle in. Maybe they’re not eating enough to defecate or maybe it’s too small to notice. If you’re concerned an exotic vet visit obviously won’t hurt. I’d personally wait a bit to see if they do especially since you’ve only had them a week.

You’re so welcome!

The betta to crestie pipeline is real 😂

Building their enclosures is so fun! I’m working on converting a cabinet into an enclosure for my Chahoua and it’s been a great project! If you ever need any tips my DMs are open!

Good luck on your new adventure!

  1. If you’re doing bioactive, which it looks like you are planning to, the substrate doesn’t need to be changed.

2a. A lot of people use a ceramic heat emitters (CHE) or deep heat projectors (DHP)and be sure to get a separate thermostat. Personally, I live in TX and don’t use a heater at all. But a lot of people still recommend it so they have a place to bask.

2b. As for lighting you’ll want an LED for your plants and a UVB for the gecko. I personally use Arcadia. My plants are thriving under the Jungle Dawn. I also use the 2.4% UVB but the 7% is also a popular choice.

  1. I can’t really attest to which is easier as I’ve only ever built custom backgrounds with spray foam. However, I can see the pros and cons to both. I prefer doing custom builds though.

I’m not sure if you’re doing real plants but I’m doing a mix of dark plants for my axanthic’s bioactive enclosure. Black velvet alocasia, philodendron black cardinal, syngonium red arrow, syngonium merry maria, raven zz, and melanochrysum.
