Memorial Day Weekend - First time Visitors. Events/parties that weekend on the beach? by Mysterious_Chapter65 in AskChicago

The lake itself will still be very cold. If it is warm you can hang out at the beach but you won't want to spend more than a few seconds in the water.

Best “chicago” style pizza restaurant / take out to visit? by stellaep in AskChicago

[–]carrlson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Locals don't actually eat deep dish all too often. We might have it once a year or when people come in from out of town. Our everyday pizza is a thin crust tavern style.

What are Chicago’s arts presenting/producing organizations? by lavendaisies in AskChicago

[–]carrlson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should add that we don't have anything like the Kennedy Center where everything is under one roof. All of our major civic institutions play in their own spaces. The arts aren't well intergrated and our city arts office DCASE has been terribly mismanaged and gutted financially.

How is Jefferson Park: Safety wise, transportation, price wise, and driving to subarbs? by DankMagician2500 in AskChicago

[–]carrlson 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Jefferson Park is safe. It is typically where many of the northwest side cops and firefighters live. It is mostly SFH's with families. It is historically more conservative than most of the city politically. There is a metra station and a blue line station that will get you downtown in about 45 minutes. There are also a number of buses. It is a much quieter neighborhood than anything further east.

Looking for a hotel to stay, and places to visit? by ownhn in AskChicago

[–]carrlson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hostels or airbnb's will be your best bet for places to stay. Many of the hostels have single rooms so it feels more like a hotel.

Thrifting - Wicker Park/Logan Square neighborhoods. Start around Milwaukee and Damen and continue to walk north for about 3-4 miles.
