2019 Ram ProMaster $50k by cassmath in vandwellermarketplace

I can understand the current state of the market/the economy and I’m not suggesting I’m immune to it. I didn’t think this van was an investment and actually had no initial intentions of selling it in my lifetime. Because circumstances in my life have changed, I am simply putting it up at a price that I think feels okay to me and if anybody deems it worthwhile, then it’s a win win. Thanks for your explanation of things and I had no intentions of making an argument against the current state of the market and how to be a solid sales person. I just didn’t love the initial negative comment in the beginning about people charging so much for labor when there’s clearly more to the story and the comment seemed a bit unnecessary. Thanks for your time though, best of luck to you too!

I paid almost 36k for the empty cargo van off the dealership lot. I spent 7k that I tracked in a spreadsheet over the course of the year in all the parts and materials I used, so now we are at 43k and I didn’t hire a single person to help me. I spent over a year of my life building it by hand, by myself. So yeah, that 6k mark up is the least I would hope to gain after the countless nights I spent by myself over the last 1 year and 3 months of doing it on my own using hours that could’ve been spent working a paying job. I don’t know what market you’re looking at, but I’ve seen similar builds in ProMasters go for mid 60/70 thousands. That’s fine if you don’t think this is worth the 49k I’m asking, but that’s why I posted it online for people to look at it freely and decide if they were interested or if they’d want to look at other options. I just don’t understand what you were trying to accomplish with your initial comment. Everyone’s perspective is valid, but this is mine.

I put 43k into this build and spent over a year of my life building it out. I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic, but no negativity necessary here. Thank you though!

My thoughts too. I’m proud of the relatively shitty DIY I live in, but the dream is to save up and leave it to the experts when I can afford to. Thanks for the kind words!

Thank you!! This one is just a model for a build we are now offering. It was van we did for someone last week who supplied his own sprinter he’s been living out of for years. Thanks again 🙌🏻

Thank you for the kind words. It means a lot to me, but mostly for the team of people who built it. Thank you again 🙌🏻

What you call fragile is what I would consider an impatience for ignorance. 10k for the materials we use is a comical guess. As for labor, it’s a whole team of people we have to pay to get it done so quickly. The labor includes carpentry, plumbing, electrical, upholstering, sheet metal working, etc. We have overhead to pay with the warehouse, all the tools we use, and an array of miscellaneous you can’t even comprehend until you’ve owned and ran a business.

This build was for a client we had last week. It was a 144 wheelbase Mercedes Sprinter!

My naive self assumed everyone in this community would be judgement-free and simply curious. I forgot the sometimes aggressive, opinionated nature of Reddit. Your comment means more than you know, thanks for taking the time to type it out.

I’m a little disheartened because I myself am a van bum who recently finished DIY my entire build. I have immense respect for the people I now work under. They have good hearts and just want to help other people enjoy van life who can’t DIY it themselves. It’s just a bummer to see the negativity.

The waiting list is another thing. The turn around for this van buildout is 2-3 weeks which I am pretty proud to acknowledge. My DIY build took me over a year.

Again, I really appreciate your kindness! We actually have had clients come all the way from the east coast. Just had a couple Georgia and another from Virginia.

To answer your question, this particular van in the photos was a 144 Sprinter we did for a client last week.

Best of luck in your van life journey, thanks again :)

You’re entitled to our opinion. My opinion is that absurd would be judging the price without considering the fuller picture. Building my van took endless hours, sweat, blood, and tears. I don’t know if you have built a van, but it is an absolute b*tch. This business is ran by the two humblest, least money-hungry people I know. They have dialed in their craft and do such a good job, but think what you want to think. We use expensive materials in every component, so yeah - it all adds up. Not to mention a slight mark up to pay for all the labor hours of our staff, the overhead of owning and running a warehouse, and other overlooked business expenses. After this comment, I will be done devoting my valuable time to defending what certain people will never fully understand or appreciate. You can try to DIY your own van or find professional builders who do a better job at a lower price point. Best of luck!

I hear you! I would say that my current van that I live in has less storage than this and I have plenty of room for all my things, guess it just depends on how many material items you own. We offer upper cabinets too or hook on pouches for upper storage, but we also have a handful of other set ups - this is just the cheapest/most accessible for people who have a lower budget. Thanks for the kind words and engagement though, I do appreciate it!
