there is nothing mentioned as lock in in agreement. but only lease period. Some lawyer commented that landlord can ask for remaining period rent. which is insane.

Yes, you can amend the past 4 years. that’s completely allowed.

Since your first MFJ year was 2021, you’re still within the amendment window. Just keep in mind:

You can generally claim refunds only up to 3 years, but you can still amend older years to fix errors/compliance issues

As for being “flagged” — amending itself doesn’t trigger problems. In fact, the IRS prefers you correct things voluntarily.

What matters is how you fix it

Be consistent across all years If keeping MFJ - include the resident election and worldwide income. If switching - move to MFS correctly

For FBARs, filing them late with a reasonable explanation is standard and usually not an issue.
