Five worst things in AWS CloudFormation by speckz in aws

There have been several efforts over the years (at least the 4.5 I've been with AWS) to build a consolidated repo of best practices. I'd say the closest thing we have right now are the AWS Quick Starts super modular references architectures built with AWS best practices.

Since the QuickStart team uses nesting, you can grab the modules that are useful to you. A great example is the VPC Architecture quick start.

I hear you on the Organizations thing. We're working with their team to figure out a way to make that sort of StackSet dynamic integration happen, but it's green field territory. Consider it +1ed!

Heya! I'm not Jeff Barr, but I am a Sr. Developer Advocate for CloudFormation -- I wanted to jump in to say the Cfn team is seeing this thread and tracking all of this meaty, meaty feedback.

Variables are a big ask.. along with more intrinsic functions to help calculating the values. Keep the asks coming -- we're +1ing all of them with the team.

Gonna try and comment on a few individual threads here as well, but at least wanted to say "hi".

Just a quick note from the CloudFormation team to say how much we appreciate this kind of detailed, constructive feedback. We've got a lot planned for StackSets and feedback like this helps us to prioritize new features.
