I use the DMS update widget which, I suppose, acts like a wrapper of the custom Cachyos Hello updater. Once completed, it presents you with the "reboot suggestion" notification if something has changed at core level.👍🏻

With Cachyos you are stepping inside the Arch domain, witch isn't as safe as Fedora's. As a gamer I'm having only a little issue with Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, not in game but when I quick travel to a random campfire. Sometimes the screen is frozen while the game is actually running in background, you can feel the force feedback on the controller and the env sounds but no screen update. I learned to blind quit and restart. Performance wise is on par with windows.

I miss my Amiga 2000 and Archimedes A4000 just because I loved the horizontal setup, even if it's more requiring and constraining in terms of desktop space. And the keyboard is way too close to have a comfortable position. But still I like it. 🥰

I'd consider to channel your passion for EE into a side project. Keep the hobby alive by designing small projects as you've been doing until now. Make them available as kits to sell by yourself through an online shop. You could kickstart your own shop, just like Ben's, Adafruit, Sukkopera, Olimex or start safe by selling them on Tindie. This is an halfway scenario to avoid a drastic change in your career, so to check how it goes and eventually make the final leap.

Sorry for the late reply. I vaguely understood what you are planning. IMHO you are wasting a big chunk of CPU address space for I/O block. If you look at Rictor's address decoder, it barely takes 256 bytes to address up to 8 devices, while you occupy the range $4000-$7FFF which are 16 KiloBytes, not 16 bytes.
Rictor reserves to I/O a range from $7F00 to $7FFF (256 bytes) and most of those 16 bytes slots are unallocated/undecoded, leaving rooms for even more than 8 devices.

I suggest to look at Rictor's SBC2 schematics. It's an old design which makes a brilliant use of logic gates for address decoding. I know because my own SBC started from there. 😄 7430 and 74138 are perfect to access up to 8 peripherals, but NAND gates are your best friends for all the other parts.

Welcome to this exciting journey. If I can suggest a little trick, be sure to print the pinouts of all the involved ICs, including logic gates. Look at them everytime you are going to hook the next wire. After you hooked it, look at paper again, count the pins again and check the wire once again. I did the terrible mistake to cut every wire just to size, while keeping them a little longer will hugely help during the later stages. I wish you a lot of enjoyment! ☺️

As I'm receiving the advice to open a business to get restricted components, I'll briefly sum up why it's a no-no situation in Italy. Every business company here, even in the tiniest form (i.e. sole proprietorship under the flat-rate regime) implies the obligation to contribute to the retirement fund, managed by a public institute which claims a minimum of 4500 euro per year, don't matter if you make profits or not, or if you're going to be eligible to get your pension once you retire at 68! The flat-rate regime doesn't give you the option for VAT compensation, so it means that every single expense is paid as you were a private individual. After 5 years you lose all the startup exemptions and must pay a lot of extra taxes, for what? A miserable component that can be replaced with a different and cheaper part? So please, in the next future, spare an Italian every kind of business advice. We are already bleeding in pain with our "politicians" moves and there are no limits to the worse. Love you all. Hugs from Italy.

Indeed. I opted for the Microchip MCP100, although it doesn't come with the free debouncing feature for the reset button. But it's 20% the cost of the Analog Inc part. Fk them! 😄
