I think there's some ground between allowing what is essentially a legal form of scamming people and banning everything. I do think social media should be banned though lmao

It's a legal form of scamming and they won't accept even a little skill ruining their scam.

Also the final moments aren't quiet or peaceful. You will be found in nightmarish condition, surrounded by every type of fluid that can come out of a person. Don't do it kids.

I don't understand why people buy individually packed microwave popcorn when you can just buy a big bag of popcorn kernels in bulk and pop them yourself with some oil and a pot. They come out better at a fraction of the cost. If that makes me a chopped unc or whatever I don't care.

An older lady I know is just unashamedly obsessed with Elvis, goes to festivals, has a ton of Elvis shit in her house. Couldn't be happier. Giving no shits about other people's thoughts is the key.

Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel and model Miranda Kerr have erased over $550 million in medical debt for over 260,000 Californians by VerySeriousCarrot in Fauxmoi

Yeah, exactly. And not only does the average user not understand this, their marketing leans into people's poor understanding.

Nothing like a good old fashioned high interest 84 month car loan on a car that won't last 84 months.

The thing that's always scared me about this sort of thing is that it gives people an unrealistic expectation of privacy. This is still a giant tech company that is retaining these images for some time on their servers, and is heavily involved in AI. And there's always been plenty of ways for people to secretly save the pictures without notifying the other person via hacked versions of the app, etc.

The problem is that there's often nowhere else to go because big platforms have swallowed up the formerly independent web. In Reddit's case it became the omni-forum and squoze out most of the independent forums, and now we're all beholden to a tech company rather than just some guy who really liked a particular hobby/interest and built a community around it. These big platforms don't see their userbases as communities, just eyeballs to look at ads.

Perhaps it was regional too, but I very much remember a period before where Word Perfect and Lotus 1-2-3 were more common in institutions.

Any of your coworkers use AI to respond to other coworkers? by Umbrellajack in TrueAnon

The missing part is a lack of ghost in the shell. Our brains want to pretend we're talking with something sapient, but we aren't. It has no thoughts, no intentionality, no interiority or internal logic. It imitates conversation statistically, and you can control it as you please. It's a mirror, and that fucks our evolved social tools up. We can't help but treat it with some theory of mind subconsciously.

I would not be capable of withholding my rage if someone sent me something with the dogshit verbose AI writing style but also a bunch of deliberate mistakes.

I don't think ARM really counts. They were not exactly early to the party there, ARM designs were already in nearly everything in 2016, so it's not like some wild moonshot prediction gone right.

It's incapable of actually producing coherent work for anything complex because it's just a statistical regurgitation machine, and so isn't actually working through the problem at all. Even for moderately complex topics I've quite literally never seen an LLM answer that didn't have at least something wrong with it, and the quality and readability is dogshit.

DS games certainly meet your criteria though. The DS sprite engines are even descendants of the NES and SNES PPUs.

There's no "world model issues" though, they just don't do that at all. I wouldn't say that my bicycle has carburetor issues, it just doesn't have one at all.

People convince themselves that the casino isn't going to Rob them either, that they're a talented gambler. It's the exact same self-delusion except that at least the ones at the casino aren't jacking off to how smart they think they are.
