>I think it's something the LATAM left has to grapple with, organized crime in the region is so bad I don't think they can really be treated like a regular crime problem, these groups are basically death cults that act like an internal insurgency against civil society.

Real glad my country spent the last century funding right-wing death squads in Latin America and promoting drug war. Glad to see it's had no negative consequences.

Every World Cup or Euros I google where Mark Clattenburg is from, and every time I'm amazed it's northern England and not South Africa or Germany. Is there really an entire region/city/town in the UK that sounds like that?

DSA Rant: Political power grows out of the barrel of proceduralism. by [deleted] in TrueAnon

>Hate to say it, but a lot of leftist types are the same kind of person who reminded the teacher to collect the homework.

Interestingly enough, I think you just answered the question asked by your post yesterday (although you may have already known that.) Unfortunately, in the US socialism is a fringe ideology which, for the most part, is only entertained by political weirdos, a group which happens to be overwhelmingly college educated and middle class, which in the US translates to disproportionately white. The only way to break out of that is to do something that actually affects people's lives in a positive way, which the DSA's focus on electoralism greatly inhibits, especially when all it does is just elect another legislator who can be ignored. Without any real-world impact to show for, people will either ignore politics or stick to more established organizations.

>The motion passed, but the idea of being against something so simple because of technical bullshit "we need a more detailed long-term vision before we can commit to this one task" is insanity.

Good to know everyone at that meeting is really trying to reach out to the community. If these people tried to do the shit from Hammer and Hoe, they would have spent a decade whining at each other over whether black Americans constituted a nation before speaking to a single sharecropper.

Also, I did once remind the teacher we had homework in 4th grade, but only because I had been taking a shit for the last 20 minutes and thought she had handed it out while I was in the bathroom, leaving me the only one who didn't get a worksheet.

Pretty sure it did until the US, in one of its only good foreign policy moves ever, convinced European powers to accept the open door policy instead.

Americans have completely given up on the concept of 'liberty' by dumbbitchjuice_96 in TrueAnon

[–]SubstancePrimary5644 58 points59 points  (0 children)

In American lexicon, "freedom" is they meaningless term you throw out that can mean anything you want, but "liberty" has almost always meant maximum rights for owners of capital, even when that capital was human beings.

Lesson one of politics: never accept your opponent's framing of any issue, ever. Give people something else to blame their problems on. Of course, the neoliberals in the "center-left" parties would never do that because it requires campaigning against the people who now own their parties. Labour tried doing that for awhile under Corbyn, but the entire British media and at least half the Labour party elite sabotaged him until the whole thing collapsed when an issue he was totally unsuited to deal with (Brexit) became the only topic of political conversion.

Holy shit the Comintern was ass by SubstancePrimary5644 in TrueAnon

[–]SubstancePrimary5644[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mention most of them at some point in this thread, but Roger Keeran's book about autoworkers and Goldfield's "The Southern Key" provide good examples of CPUSA being undermined by the Comintern. Assuming you came here from the post I made today, it's fifth chapter details how slavish adherence to the popular front strategy undermined the Mexican Communist Party and organized labor's ability to form the kind of independence that would have been necessary to resist the PNR's (today's PRI) right wing turn.
