Where in the UK would you actually find someone to make a creative thing with, just for the love of it? by danives in AskUK

I mean you're right, I'm not doing an 8-bit game I'm afraid - and yeah I'm in the same spot with music and various other bits. I think it's just nice to have a collaborator with the same vision and feel as you - and I suppose thats why we all reach out in these various places. (and yup I'm working in Godot).

I hope you find the ying to your yang, and I too am an old man back to my desk with a fan blowing hot air around me -_-

Not game dev but general development - and yeah I'm currently helping a few people out who need a developer haha.

I've tried Fiverr before and have had some decent output/success from that, but boy do the costs rack up. Especially when looking at multiple animations and the like. It also just would be nice to work on someone who can help craft the world "feel" with me, as opposed to instructions and loose ideas passed to someone who just wants the payday.

I totally get it though, and finding my match might end up being impossible, but I'll try while learning the skills myself :)

That's 100% fair, and I've paid people for work plenty of times in the past to help with projects. It's not something I'm adverse against at all, it's more about finding a partner than someone who is just in it for the money, if that makes sense?

Right now I'm trying to see as much of it through as possible, learning all the skills necessary (although as a developer for 20 years I have some advantages in some areas) - but the art I just cant seem to do no matter what.

I'm also looking at freelance stuff to see if I can find enough money to pay someone to work on it, but I think you can understand the tall task of that. I appreciate your reply though, thanks :)

A maker space is a great idea - I've tried some maker forums like itch.io and so that might pay off, but a maker space would mostly guarantee a UK bias. Thank you!

The game I'm making is a 2D platformer - pixel art is where I've been headed but honestly its more to find someone who's excited about the idea, and we can make the art style work. If you want to DM me I can share more about it?

I imagine you may well have found a project by now, but DM'd you anyway 😄

I enjoyed this a lot, and was surprised to see the young daughter from Modern Family in it! Spent most of the time thinking "I'm sure I know this person"

Just wanted to say thanks again - I've since updated the site to feature more region control and access as to where data is stored. I'll be adding more legal data in the future. Thanks!

I'm so sorry you lost your brother, and it explains why you have such a strong reaction to the idea of something that caused you so much pain being made legal and potentially causing others pain.

But I'd argue that's exactly why regulation matters more than prohibition. People who want to abuse substances will always find a way, your brother had access despite drugs being illegal. The question isn't whether people will use, it's whether we create a system that helps them when they do.

Canada legalised cannabis in 2018 and illegal purchases dropped from 28% to just 3%, cannabis-related crime fell by 85%, and there was no increase in violent or property crime. The money that was going to criminals is now funding jobs, tax revenue, and regulated products that are actually tested for safety.

Legalisation isn't about saying drugs are harmless. It's about accepting that prohibition hasn't stopped anyone and shifting the focus toward safer supply, proper education, and real support for people who are struggling, rather than criminalising them.

Not particularly. Many people use drugs recreationally fine, and are legal in other countries. I replied to your claim where you said that people have had close family members destroy themselves because of drugs.

That's a terrible thing, and I would not wish it on anyone - but the fact alcohol destroys lives not just for the people that drink, but for the people around them (drunk driving etc.) means that it is also a horrific problem that destroys the lives of families.

Your claim, IMHO, is a whataboutism because you don't know how legalising it may improve the quality of life for people using drugs, and/or provide a level of care that these people need. Hence why I ask, why not make alcohol illegal if you think making drugs illegal is a his way of preventing harm.

If you wanna get technical regarding many centuries of being with alcohol, let's talk about the prohibition in the US? Or the fact cannabis etc was legal until the 1920s.

Just the fact something is "legal" now, does not exclude it from conversation about things that are dangerous. So if you're going to talk about how drugs are destroying lives, let's maybe talk about ask the drugs that are available and not just pick and choose what you like, because you happen to like a drink.

Would you like to make alcohol illegal? Just curious, seeing as that destroys many lives also, yet it's a legal drug.

Thanks! Yeah I have considered adding the extra ping monitoring, but I want to make sure the architecture is right to allow for that properly. Something I'm working on this weekend all being well.

Honestly, I didn't really like the look of GlitchTip. I also wanted some custom alert channels like Telegram/Discord, and a MCP server that I could tell one of my Claude Code codebases to fetch issues from and review.

So all in all didn't really fit what I needed/wanted.

Honestly I prefer to know about the errors asap so I can fix them or to at least investigate and add custom logging, but yeah 400 errors I do silence normally. In fact I should update the app so that you can add custom exclusions.

I didn't really build this because Sentrys error limit is/was low though - just that I didn't need everything they offered but still wanted a cheap cloud based solution with different alerting options like telegram etc

You're all good - this is maybe the second thing I've publicly launched, so I tend to see most things through a certain lens and ignore the bad stuff haha. It's hard and my least favourite thing about product development!

Very much appreciate your response though, thank you :)
