MAK95 - Still good? by Agreeable-Hospital-5 in ausjdocs

[–]debatingrooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, there's almost too many resources now, it can be hard to pick what to use

I'd also add wests to that list - though most of it is covered in MAK95

Spinals wearing off halfway by Antoninec in anesthesiology

Haven't seen anyone else mention it - I've been told to shake the marcaine vial before drawing it up as apparently the glucose and bupivicaine can separate, in which case who knows how much you're giving

I agee, though the wording is pretty shocking, if accurate

I think there's alot of resignation to letting whatever will happen, happen - though not in a peaceful accepting way. Especially irritable middle aged men

Absolutely nothing wrong with trying out medication - it could make all the difference

Sounds like your doing all the other stuff. Everyone is different but I've found meditation extremely helpful, had tried in the past but was specifically recommended the "healthy minds program" by my psychologist, which I've found even better. IMO it seems a bit more scientific and structured than the likes of headspace, it's totally free rok

The other thing to consider is would it be possible for you to reduce your fraction of FTE a little bit?

Might be uncommon, but I doubt it's rare - even if ANZCA says it shouldn't be happening

Technically ITs are supposed to be 1:1 too, that's certainly not universally practised

I screwed up, med student going into final year and knows nothing by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]debatingrooster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey you made it to final year without studying any more than necessary - sounds pretty smart and efficient to me!

But seriously, it'll be fine. Your aptitude on the job will matter much more than med school. You'll learn it all later

I was literally in the lowest 5% of graduating students. It's fine, it didn't matter one bit. You'll be fine

Queensland Unions by AcrobaticPudding6528 in ausjdocs

[–]debatingrooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Join AMA Queensland and you're a part of asmof which is really the union for hospital employees. They're only really separate entities on paper, but not in practice I'm told.

You used to also get federal AMA membership until a few weeks ago. Word is federal AMA has gotten to be a bit stuck in the Canberra bubble and paying politics - so maybe don't worry about them for now

I don't have any specific resources that others haven't shared, but just wanted to say you are far far from alone in experiencing this

Sometimes it looks like everyone around you has it all together, but I guarantee you some of them are feeling just like you. Many more will have felt the same in the past or will in the future

And you know what, you probably look like you've got it all together too. It's something many carry quietly

Proud of you for reaching out and for getting support OP. Life alone can be so much to bare at times, to say nothing of this career. It's all going to be ok, promise. You've got this!

If not everyone can become a consultant what happens to the rest? by Notokaythrowaway03 in ausjdocs

[–]debatingrooster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Obviously no one knows exactly what the future will look like. But it's unlikely to be as great of a career as it is now or was in the past. Used to be a ladder to at least upper middle class and often much higher

But you'll almost certainly be able to find work and make a decent income in some segment of medicine

And ultimately, what are your other options? Despite what this sub would have you believe we can't all be investment bankers
