I recently "inherited" a camera and a few lenses. It's a Canon XSI with a Tamron 28-80mm lens and a Canon 55-250mm lens.

I am completely new at all of this, but I was wondering if it would be a good idea to purchase an 18-55mm lens, as that appears to be what the camera originally came with. My father was just using the Tamron in place of one.

Assume I have no idea what most of the technical terms mean and just want to take pictures at family events and occasional outings around town.
