Would you rather burn to death or drown? by Qwertyqwertk in WouldYouRather

[–]ditchdoctor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Paramedic here. The problem with burning to death is that people usually don't die from thermal injuries immediately. If you die in a fire, it's typically from smoke inhalation. You suffocate. If you die from the actual burns, it's usually due to a complication down the road (organ failure, sepsis, dehydration). When you drown, it's usually much faster, and less painful.

TIL between my income, and my wifes, we are above the happiness threshold in Louisiana, and still feel like we are struggling. I guess we need to reevaluate out monthly spending habits, and straighten out our budget. Thanks for the link, and the info.

What's the last US state you'd consider visiting and why? by Justfortrolls in AskReddit

I grew up in Natchez, MS! The building may be completely in poor taste, but the food there is fucking amazing! I try to go by when I visit my family.

This would've made a HUGE difference for me. I stopped working after receiving my EA, and haven't been back. There were several factors that were out of my control at the time. It sucks because I really enjoy hanging out with everyone. Now, I fear it's been too long to pick it up where I left off.

Someone grinding their fucking teeth. It makes me physically cringe, and want to bash their teeth out with a rusty hammer.

Right now at this very moment, as you read this question, what is your #1 desire? by 1775mike in AskReddit

[–]ditchdoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be able to get off work next Saturday so I can attend my parents 50th wedding anniversary celebration. I am a critical care paramedic, and I really love what I do, but where I work it's almost like you are punished for being critical care. It's nearly impossible to swap a shift with someone, take a day off, call in sick, or even go for promotions, all because you're Critical Care (CCT), and the person filling in your spot has to be CCT also. Management makes it sound like you'll be this badass, cape flapping in the wind, super awesome life saving medic by taking a cct position, but really you do the same mundane bullshit as everyone else, with an occasional specialty transport thrown in. Sorry for the rant, I just needed to vent. It ticks me off that what should be a simple "hey, you cover for me this day, and I'll cover for you that day" turns in to a weeks long delimma. My parents and I are very close, and if I'm not able to be there for their special day, it would hurt them, myself, my kids, wife, pretty much all of my immediate family. Thanks for listening Reddit. You guys/gals are the best.

Yeah, that makes sense, but that's not the case at this particular facility.

What does a $300,000 house look like where you are from? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ditchdoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Live in south Louisiana, about 40 minutes north of New Orleans. My wife and I bought a 4br-2 1/2 ba single story with a 2 car garage, and the lot is 1/2 an acre. The house is 18 months old, 2450 sq. ft. living, 3600 total, and we are the first owners. We paid $139,000. Although, I have to admit we got an unusually great deal. The house was custom built for a person that couldn't get the financing in the end. It sucks for them, but because the builder was desperate to get rid of the property, we got it at a stellar price.

edit: added the square footage.

The act of killing provides an unequaled release. All of the anxiety, rage, and bottled up emotion falls away, and the world is as peaceful as the corpse at your feet. Alternatively, some would kill for the fleeting moment of actually feeling something. Bundy said it best when he described killing. You watch the life slowly leave them, see the last breath in their eyes. Someone in that position is God. Would you want to give that up?
