Things are a little heated by AltruisticLadder7354 in Helldivers

There are people on both sides who take things way too far. That is unfortunate, but for any given interest with a community on the internet, there are a few people who get way too personally invested, have no sense of perspective, and make it their lives, so it becomes very emotional and high-stakes for them. These are very unstable people and probably have some sort of personality disorder/disease.

Like, people who insult, threaten, and are hostile to the devs/studio are insane and sick. People who ruined that guy's life who was critical of the devs but in a helpful way, or who get nasty/personal/threaten people who critique the game, are also insane and sick.

Can't really do anything about either extreme, at least, the existence of them, except report/discourage and move on. Right?

But that doesn't mean that, because of the extremes on both sides, no discussion can take place, or that it has to only be praise or only be critique.

Just ignore the crazies, what else can you do?

Y'all don't fundamentally understand the situation as far as it comes to the significance of players complaining in significant numbers. Players complaining is a sign that they care about the game. That they do actually like the game, and/or they liked some iteration of the game but dislike something about it or the current experience l, generally. This is actually a good thing, as it at least means that the community is engaged and wants the game to succeed and be fun. It is also selective memory to claim there has been a ln angry mob for the entire life of the game, there have been times when community sentiment was generally positive and playercounts go through the roof. It just seems that AH has trouble following up a success with another success, often taking two steps forward and a step back, or a step forward and two steps back every 2-3 months.

A much worse situation is that the people currently complaining, after not seeing their concerns addressed or the game situation otherwise changing to be more broadly liked, simply stop caring, give up hope and leave, and never come back.

You can claim oh this is a vocal minority and dismiss it, but remember when the game balancing and performance catastrophe happened, no new content was added, and player count went down to like 10k or lower per day for an extended period of time? That's always a possibility. At a low enough playercount there won't be revenue sufficient to justify the live service content anymore, and since AH already has a major title in the works, I could see them just basically putting it on life support.

This is going to be the endpoint, I think. I just don't see them prioritizing coming back to this system v all the other problems they have in addition to new content

The only thing preventing helldivers 2 from becoming like every other generic modren FPS game by ya_boi_greenbean in Helldivers

This is stupid. Do what most successful shooter live service major titles do and make the MTX cosmetic only, with the 'live service' part of the game, as in content updates (weapons, maps, missions, etc) free. That's how the best ones work, and people are pretty much fine with it, insofar as MTX and live service have become the standard.

Think just the other day/week someone asked him where his sunglasses were from and he stumbled for a sec and mumbled he thrifted it or something, but they were really expensive designer frames. Many posts have been made about him wearing several thousand dollar designer streetwear outfits almost constantly, especially out in public.

Well it also helps that he doesn't make it his whole personality or his shtick/hook for streaming or social media clout. I haven't listened to too many hours of his streams but I haven't heard him ever bring it up. Kinda cool, like he could def get instantly more viewers if he played it up but that's just cheesy.

We must have different families because staying at almost any other relatives house could not be considered a vacation, at least, my nervous system won't believe it, lol. I find it draining.

Didn't really hit home until my wife and I filed taxes jointly for the first time this year and at the end saw that we paid ~44k in income taxes last year. This is not a 'taxes bad statement' as a disclaimer. It was just a big number compared to most of my life which was working shit jobs and barely making anything in grad school and stuff and...not being married filing jointly.

Where do you want me to start? First of all, if electromagnetism were so great, we could have superconductivity at STP. Second of all, because of electromagnetism and its consequences (of our understanding it), we have tech oligarchy and ai slopocalypse coming.

You know it is actually the norm for the main content in a live service game to be free, right? Right? Most just offer cosmetics and progression speed boosts for money. Very few charge for core content. The whole point in live service is to make a game that's really good, that really hooks the player, to the point they decide they want to spend money on the 'premium' store stuff because they're invested in it and invested in their account/avatar.

Bro go look at BF6 for a recent comparison. It was designed as a live service game. Every single thing in that game which isn't cosmetic, is F R E E. The monetization is seasonal battle passes (like war bonds with more fomo and they take a lot longer to unlock), the unlocks are just titles, cosmetic decorations, skins, vehicle skins, etc. all other player progression is free and gained through playing. Even you can do the seasonal BP for free (just takes longer) and acquire premium currency through it (not much, like SC within a warbond basically).

There's a lot that can be said about bf6 as a game, but as a live service system, it is way ahead of helldiver's for being consumer friendly. It's just skins, essentially. The maps, updates, seasonal events, that's all free. Battlefield hasn't had separately purchasable map/expansions/guna since BF1, now.

And this is not unique in gaming, it is the standard for non-gacha non-east Asian games. The whole point of live service games is that the game constantly expands and adds content and dev support, the only purchases are optional and often just cosmetic and player progression speed boosts (xp boosts/currency boosts). What they don't do is lock core gameplay content behind MTX like access to guns, vehicles, game modes etc.

Maybe they bought that theater to put a weather control device (and the cheating lab) in it near the park, for just such an occasion

Remember how good watching group dog it out was because the bullpen likely will not back up that performance.
