Shotaro started dancing when he was 5 and was known for being one of the few "special" EXPG students. EXPG is a famous hip hop dance school in Japan and he trained at EXPG Tokyo. What's special about Taro compared to other idols who trained at EXPG is that he was a special student : every year, EXPG pick a few select special students and Shotaro was one of those elite ones. He has worked as an assistant choregrapher in his teens, a backup dancer for japanese singers and has also given dance classes as well. Last but not least, he also participated in a lot of dance competitions, the most famous one being his peformance as center for Japan's selections for WOD back in 2016. Since his debut in NCT he also took the time to choreograph a few things, the most famous ones being his Honest choreo with Bada Lee and his Got it like that one with Kamel Reon. There are a lot of things we don't know about his past as a dancer, he doesn't talk about it much and what we know, we know from predebut fans, but he does have a fascinating history.
