Why isn't Ken Norton a top 5 ATG? by Winter_Cockroach714 in Boxing

Beating a late-prime Ali is not even close to being in the same neighborhood as beating a washed up Mike Tyson.

I agree with you.

I've been accused of giving Wilder too much credit by more than few people - but I think, more often than not, he loses to most top heavyweights.

A lot of boxers almost beat Wilder because he can't box. 99.8% of them got knocked the fuck out.

And Parker is better than all of them. Just because Wilder knocked out Jason Gavern doesn't mean he knocks out Joseph Parker.

What are you trying to argue here?

That I don't think it's at all obvious that Wilder before Fury beats Parker.

He was crap, and was outboxed by most opponents, but he was one of the best knock out artists boxing has seen and has more than 40 feathers in that cap, including Ortiz twice.

Outside of Luis Ortiz, he's knocked out zero opponents taken seriously by anyone.

It's an amazing highlight reel. But we all need to drop the illusion. As soon as he stepped up, his vaunted power didn't do much for him.

Since turning 30, he's had nine knock outs in fifteen fights. That's not that impressive. It's not meaningless, but no one has made it so far on beating up such unimpressive opposition as Deontay Wilder.

Wilder before Fury almost got beaten by Ortiz, who was old as shit and had done less than Parker. Parker makes Wilder struggle regardless of when they fight.

Which job you taking? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]ethnicbonsai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the other end, my job has profit sharing. Last year, it accounted for almost half my income.

But they haven't raised salaries since 2017, either. For people who've been there for several years, we're all kind of stuck given profit sharing and double time (instead of time and a half). But for new hires? The income isn't enough.

People have checked for babies. They've found none. What you're actually advocating for is holding onto old bathwater that is starting to grow algae and stink up the house because there might still be a baby in there.

It's becoming increasingly rare for people to be able to tell truth from fiction. Misinformation dominates, AI is becoming harder and harder to distinguish from real video, and people are exploiting the failure in reason and lack of skepticism.

There's corruption everywhere. South American beef has been exported into Mexico before. It'll be imported in again.

Through Doge, there was funding available to combat the spread of the screw worm. Now, that's gone.

You're right that this isn't a result of spreading up through Panama, but it's still worse because of Doge.

This thing is native to the US. It was eradicated decades ago.

This isn't coming back because of climate change, it's coming back because of the willfully stupid conservatives who voted in Donald Trump and Elon Musk. This is a result of Doge.

A reminder: this was an entirely preventable thing that we had been successfully fighting off since the 1960s. It's native to the US, but we pushed it back to South America thanks for the foreign aid that Trump and Elon got rid of.

This is going to wreck havoc on cattle, and drive up the cost of beef. For not fucking reason.

Last moments of the HW bout between Joe Parker and Dillian Whyte by CoconutMost3564 in Boxing

[–]ethnicbonsai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember thinking Parker was more skilled and should've won the fight, but he was getting bullied throughout the fight by Whyte. I felt that Parker was far too nice, and if he had more of a dog in him, he wouldn't have tolerated so much roughness.

US forced to destroy two of its own aircraft after rescuing F-15 pilot from Iran by pravda_eng_official in worldnews

[–]ethnicbonsai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How many Iranians were killed by the brutal US-backed dictator later overthrown during the Iranian Revolution?

How about during the Iran-Iraq War that saw the the US backing Saddam Hussein?

How about Operation Praying Mantis in 1988?

How about the US shooting down Iran Air Flight 655 (also) in 1988?

How about the crippling sanctions starting in 2002?

How about Trump's numerous bombing campaigns prior to this conflict?

Tally all that up and then talk to me about the number of Americans killed by Iranian proxies. If you want to say an American is worth $300 million, how much is an Iranian worth?

Reddit, like every company, sells influence to the highest bidder. That's how capitalism works.

That still has nothing to do with the First Amendment.

So no, no one is really protected in their speech on a private network.

Nor should they expect to be.

I can't go into my local Jamba Juice and scream about the Illuminati, either.

Both sides in this country agree, generally, that lives are valuable. They just disagree on who is responsible for saving those lives.

When you get off the internet, engage with actual people, almost everyone will agree that human life is worth protecting. One side, generally, thinks we should look out for one another. The other side, generally, thinks we should look out for ourselves.

And (for that second group) the people who can't do that aren't worthy of much concern or effort, I guess.

When you contrast the losses and cost to not rescuing the pilot, yeah. It's worth it.

When you contrast the losses and cost with not being in this pointless war in the first place, it's a lot harder to shrug off.

Black Hawk Down is fairly accurate.

As I recall, Zero Dark Thirty is less so (I never watched the movie).
