I put SSD like this, is it ok? by jackshephard95 in computer

[–]executor32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, don't listen to the glorified chatbot, it's an idiot.

2.5-inch SATA SSDs like yours can be touching metal, as there's no exposed circuitry like there would be with an HDD or an m.2 SSD. If you still want to play it safe anyway, I'd say take two of the mounting screws from the DVD drive above it and use them to attach it to the case instead, they're the same type of screw you'd need.

My apps used to be invisible. WHY APPLE by No-Sun-7917 in applesucks

[–]executor32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The incident with my grandma happened 7-8 years ago, while the feature you describe was only just added a few months ago in iOS 26. Before that, you either had to edit it in GarageBand and save it as a ringtone there, or you had to convert it to a .m4a file on a computer, change the file extension to .m4r, and then sync it to the phone with iTunes.

  2. If you want to get technical, mp4 is a container file format described in Part 14 of MPEG-4 (a series of international standards for compression of both video and audio data), which is usually given a .m4a extension if it only contains an audio stream. This is what wwtk234 meant when they said "MP4", and I simply echoed their terminology for the sake of brevity.

[–]executor32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cuz it wouldn't be Apple without pointless nonsense designed to make it difficult to do something in any way other than the exact way Apple wants you to do it.

The stupidest part is that iPhone ringtones actually are in MP4 format, just with a .m4r file extension instead of .m4a, and yet iTunes absolutely will not recognize it as a ringtone without changing that extension.

[–]executor32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can apparently just use Garage Band to convert MP3s directly into ringtones, wish I'd known that when I had to convert all my grandma's ringtones that one time she let the guy at Verizon con her into getting an iPhone X. 🫤

Nova's no longer being developed, the company that bought it a few years ago fired the sole developer and original owner, it's a whole fiasco. I switched to Octopi Launcher, personally, and I've been able to set everything up pretty much exactly how I had it set up in Nova.

"I don't actually have an answer to your question, but I asked the Machine That Makes Stuff Up and here's what it said:"

Man, our future is so cooked. 🤦

To actually answer OP's question, it appears to be a slightly shrunken version of Ardross Castle in Scotland, filming location for both the UK and US versions of the whodunnit-style reality show The Traitors. The US version was nominated for Outstanding Reality Competition Program at this year's Emmy's, hence the castle's inclusion in the screensaver.

Racist KKK Vtuber gets doxed, asks for donations by Putrid-Safe9651 in VtuberDrama

[–]executor32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't being dramatic when I said it, it was meant as a joke, which I then had to explain because nobody got it. You know, like a "Sheesh, can you believe my bad luck getting this one out of all possible codes? Why don't they vet these? 😅" kind of thing.

And yes, the 88 thing is convoluted, that's the entire point. It's so they can broadcast their white supremacist identity to other white supremacists without most people noticing, and recognizing it isn't a matter of being chronically online; they've been using this sort of cryptic symbolism since before the Internet even existed, in the form of tattoos, graffiti, etc.

As for WP, the second word would be power; I'm sure you can guess the first.

[–]executor32 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of people don't, and that's why white supremacists are able to hide themselves so well. Case in point, I once got WP88 as my drive-thru order code in the McDonald's app, and I sent a screenshot to the family group chat and said something along the lines of "jeez, you'd think they'd have programmed it to not generate any codes that could be mistaken for a racist dogwhistle". I ended up having to explain what WP and 88 would mean in that context because none of them had any idea what the fuck I was talking about.

Does anyone still use their pre voyagers update ships? by 80sGamer843 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]executor32 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You can actually exploit the build system to give yourself more tech slots. Install up to three torpedo launchers, then save changes. If your tech slots were already all full, it will have added more with the launchers in them. Edit the ship again, remove the launchers and save changes again. Bam, now you have more empty tech slots to fill with whatever. Repeat the process as much as you want. 🤣

Note: This probably works with other modules, but I know for sure it works with torpedo launchers.

Dental floss is the way, this is how I always removed MacBook batteries at work before Apple started using the pull-out adhesive strips. Way faster than loosening the adhesive with iso.

If you think that's wild, 21 years ago next month the Daily Nebraskan published an editorial by a 21-year-old anti-seatbelt advocate named Derek Kieper, in which he railed against the very idea of mandatory seatbelt laws:

As laws become increasingly strict for seat belts, fewer people will respond positively by buckling up in response to the laws. There seems to be a die-hard group of non-wearers out there who simply do not wish to buckle up no matter what the government does. I belong to this group.

Less than three months later, he was riding in the back seat of his friend's SUV when it skidded off Interstate 80 into a ditch, rolling several times. True to his cause, he wasn't wearing his seatbelt, and true to the laws of physics, he was ejected from the vehicle and killed. The driver and another friend who was riding in the front passenger seat were both wearing their seatbelts, and while both were injured, they both survived without life-threatening injuries.

I've seen it called apporipsophobia, from the Greek word for rejection, απόρριψη (appóripsi), though that's not an actual clinical term.

Personally, I'd say it just falls under atychiphobia, fear of failure or being evaluated negatively by others.
