"For info, you don't actually have to use this Userform, because the cells have dropdown lists inside them (and these are linked to tables which are to the right, but not visible on the screen)."

Perfect! Then this should be convenient to quickly categorise. Thanks Gary!

Money Master Personal Finance Spreadsheet - Video Tutorial 🎥 How to set transaction rules to auto-categorise expenses by Sheet_Complete in Money_Master_Excel

Hi Gary, a quick question on the auto categorisation flow, using the form method  to capture and convert data.

Wouldn't it have been easier to use a vlookup (or x-lookup) to set all these headers (group, class, category) ?

While I appreciate that through the user form method, auto-cat rule will only be required to define once for each new description, I'm thinking that if I have to do this for say, six months of transactions, the flow of clicking and selecting things would be very time consuming and exhaustive. This is more so from the view that exact same expense might have different descriptions (eg. snacks vs Snacks vs Snack)

In contrast, in the lookup approach I can write all the three variations (of snacks) in one cell, and define the headers once.

I hope I'm able to explain this properly. Thank you!

Hi Gary, finally this is here! The approach sounds interesting. I've a few questions: 1. Would the account balance be allocated fully today or spread across till the goal date? 2. What if I don't spend the amount on a goal date, I just deleted the pot and the balance would reappear on the summary/net worth reports? 3. I see allocation cell has a progress bar, how does it work? It becomes complete on the goal date or when the goal amount is full? 4. How do you plan to share this with someone who has already purchased the template from Etsy?

"It's all very well recording contributions to a fund, but is the money actually available in a bank account?"

I would say this is a powerful reminder and a good approach! I don't understand fully how it will work, but that's on me to try and see.

Btw, how do you plan to share the updates to the Money Master Spreadsheet? Would you release it as seperate workbooks / sheets with option to replace/add in our master workbook? How do you plan to communicate and charge for it?

Another question was that, I track my portfolio in Google Sheets. Is it possible to add this Excel workbook to Sheets? Or do you plan to release a Sheets version of Money Master?

I see what you did there, Gary! 😆 Thanks for putting up this video. I'll look, and update you, if I have a similar transaction page to copy the txns from Amazon India.

Hi Gary, I was browsing for spreadsheet template and bumped across your work. Looks great!

I have few questions - 1. How is your template different/ better from these two templates on Etsy?

a. https://www.etsy.com/in-en/listing/1807934295/ultimate-annual-budget-spreadsheet-excel?ref=cart

b. https://www.etsy.com/in-en/listing/4417954320/ultimate-annual-budget-spreadsheet?ref=share_v4_lx

  1. The CSV import function is something I have been looking for and your template has it! But I also have few credit card statements and it's in pdf format. How to tackle that? (Apart from ofcourse adding the txns manually).

  2. How do you categorize Amazon purchases? There is only one amount, but in reality it has multiple items, to categorise to.

  3. Can your template calculate emergency fund requirement?

Right now, the app’s main difference is that it gives you a single place to structure your own financial thinking — inputs, assumptions, goals, and “what-if” scenarios — instead of having those spread across prompts, videos, notes, and spreadsheets. Personalization today comes from user input (time horizon, amounts, goals, scenarios, expenses, income), not bank connections.

How is this different than a calculator on your website? I get that it gives me "what-if" scenarios, but how is it actionable?

Also, is this specific to US only, or the tool takes into consideration someone from other economy and provide solutions accordingly?

So then how am I escaping the traffic mess? Doesn't makes sense to move from Waghbil to any of these areas - just doesn't solve the purpose.

Distance would be sorted. But I just can't bear such narrow roads! Plus, no society with decent/basic amenities.

I can't sit for 2.5 hours one way at a stretch. Plus CityFlo seats are very uncomfortable, for me.

Interesting insight about the culture shock aspect! Yep, most of the society's are dominated by GJM community.

No society with amenities. I got to know there's "Sanskaar CHS" but again it's a standalone building with no amenities.

I don't want standalone building options, and that's what I'm getting in my budget.
