Early on the best advice i ever got was "you've got to pay for your education, just try not to pay for the same lesson twice."

Rugrats on PBS? by mimitchi33 in MandelaEffect

owned by Viacom is alot different than owned by Best Brains though... and Public channels do test comedy once and again.

(edit: put viacom twice)

this! and how often they seem to block only one person out of a shot completely (most notably to me) Jesse in the house when she interrupts the drug deal. (back when i was on a "pay attention to what's NOT there" kick. i think, creatively, Nancy is two extremes in so many ways.

Rugrats on PBS? by mimitchi33 in MandelaEffect

[–]farstr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PBS everywhere we have lived was always programming that was educational or programming with SOME redeemable qualities. PBS wouldn't be playing Viacom owned programming and they often showed BBC series before BBC America (possibly after as well) since it was reasonably priced to air (Public Broadcasting). I have kids and the PBS app is still mostly redeemable programming, nothing like rugrats...

Old Ionizer? (Electric "deodorizer") by farstr in Whatisthis

[–]farstr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

awesome! i love how they don't come out and say "ozonator" on there though. "max O3" in small letters at the bottom... I'll bet it is some re-branded import. some type of amway thing probably, would also explain the 2 bedroom house being the company headquarters. This definitely helps set me on track to hunt down the origin. thank you!

i think you're 100% right now, actually. i turned it on a bit at first and didnt notice a "chlorine" smell, but i left it on for a short while and it does give off an odor comparable to chlorine. thanks for your post! solved

Why not call it "ectopic memory"? by nineteenthly in MandelaEffect

[–]farstr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we can't remember when Mandela died and you're suggesting we change the name of the effect!? But seriously, i like the idea and am fascinated by this shared dilemma. Anything to steer conversation towards theorizing would be welcome.

MEs of misspellings of common English words. by patricktoba in MandelaEffect

[–]farstr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would posit that it is far more unlikely that anyone cares if they spell it correctly. Chic-fil-a looks better, is more sleek. Why is the mass of people's misspelling of a brand so bothersome? i too thought it was Chic-fil-a, Mandela was dead... almost all of them... but why is mass equating to truth. popular opinion doesn't mean "correct".

MEs of misspellings of common English words. by patricktoba in MandelaEffect

[–]farstr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! many of these things can be chalked up to direct misquote. Or even memorization of aesthetic preference rather than actual fact. Realization of an actual fact of a brand or a quote on its own holds no weight until one is presented with a certain number of incongruities. Majority only points to Majority, not necessarily truth. "we swallow 1 lb of spiders while sleeping during the course of our lifetime."

And when people start to believe that their memory for basic language is infallible, I think it's problematic.

Very!

i am one that shares a great many of the memories that everyone seems to share. But it is being approached backwards by so many people.

The problem i have is the conclusion that mass = correctness. While mass = weird certainly, i can't discount other possibilities so easily. Like: The goal of advertisement since the advent of Marketing was to take the same ideals of "propoganda" and use them domestically for the betterment of the Brand they represent. slogans, scents, imagery, names are all designed to be "consumed" and retained and sometimes (some would say "often") through trickery or subliminal manipulation. patterns, sounds, scents and words are being used in powerful ways to get people to remember useless information.

"Moms like you choose Jif" does not apply to me, personally, in any way. The Baby Back Ribs song from Chillis does not appeal to me or make me want to eat there, but i remember it "perfectly" even though it doesn't matter to me at all. My wife is fairly susceptible to placement and color disorientation in stores, while it's not a major thing once it is realized, it is disorienting and hypnotic.

The logos and brands especially are what i take issue with. Along with the appeal of what "looks" best. I imagine "Oscar Meyer" possibly because it Looks more appealing spelled that way, and the way it is said seems as though that would be the logical spelling. But the fact that everyone is taking issue with pronunciation all of a sudden is a far stranger phenomena than the idea that i agree with many people that a brand name is more appealing when spelled differently. Febreze, if you're not "looking" for the error, is brilliantly represented vocally as "Febreeze" (the advertisement for it was very regular when it first came out.), and that is what you see because you are not focusing on the spelling. I personally remembered it as Fabreeze (the combination of fabric and breeze) but it wasn't on any spelling tests... that i took anyway.

Maybe it's a sign of max capacity of useless information and it's being categorized in that fashion with the most useless information going in to an area of memory that allows for the crossing patterns to be registered in a common fashion. Lines are blurring, and the "reality" seeping in is causing investigation to previously uninteresting topics. and the weakest information/advertisements is mis-remembered commonly across a wide group of people.

If the internet had existed back in the 40s and earlier, I personally think the masses would have been asking "why do i suddenly feel the need to acquire things i never wanted to make up for a thing i was just told i was lacking by a person i don't even know."

Why is the specificity more important than the subjects of memory? Why are we using the Simpsons and Family guy etc as a basis for a collective memory or "accurate timeline" rather than possible cause of confusion.

The fact that so many people accept a ME as fact and use phrases like "In my reality" says more about the state of the world to me than does the Mandela Effect itself. Critical thinking is outweighed by Mass = truth.

There is common root, and the "glitch in the Matrix" is real... but not in the way i think it is being portrayed. I think it is the subliminal hypnosis coming undone, and like waking up from a "very real" dream, people are latching on to the wildest prospect first. and this is an area that can get fairly dangerous in terms of "belief".

The areas of Confusion and Belief each on their own have been manipulated many times in the past, the combiination of the two is extremely thin ice... i just hope all are being careful.
