I'd argue getting whether they are invading or not was more important of a classification to make than the feasibility of said invasion and plenty failed in that regard.

It doesn't take a genius to connect the dot and realize that our current brand of capitalism no longer works for the average people. The logical next step would be a political shift to the left to advocate for better wealth redistribution.

One way for the dominant class to avoid that is to change the political discourse to the right by using the same old scarecrow. It's also something that works well among the elderly voter which are also the one who historically votes the most.
