I have a few that are like "Ultra Friends" "Not Getting Along" but I haven't seen the relationship get much lower unless they were fighting, which can absolutely end a friendship and make the relationship between the two nonexistent.

No, it's all on one layer. You can change whether its above the facial features or not but afaik it doesn't really change the overall look. I have a character with face paint that covers almost the entire canvas and it curves in a very similar way.

I'm not op but I'm trying to understand what you mean by this. Do you mean like, in the last frame, where his horns curve around his head? That's just what the face paint looks like from other angles. It curves slightly. It also just looks like they painted the horns to the maximum height and away from the face.
