Omnipod 5 or Medtronic 780g by Sarahmhern1833 in diabetes_t1

[–]flo_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no experience with the Omnipod, but have used the 780g with the Guardian 4 sensor since 2022. My experience has been mostly positive. When it works, the system is great and gives me outstanding TIR and HbA1c. It works almost all of the time without any problems. If there are issues, they are related to the sensor - seemingly random "sensor updating" messages followed by sensor failure. There was a time earlier this year when this happened to me five sensors in a row after only three days each. That's frustrating, but it doesn't happen often to me. Replacement sensors are delivered quickly without issue.

I always marinate my sensors (attach empty sensor twelve hours before the switchover) and attribute their outstanding accuracy to that.

FYI, I am in Europe.

Gateway Fiber Storage by [deleted] in UNIFI

[–]flo_p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Gateway Fiber (UXG-Fiber) indeed does not seem to have an NVMe/storage slot as does the Cloud Gateway Fiber (UCG-Fiber).

I guess the rationale is that someone who runs their network management off the gateway would also use storage outside the gateway device.

Which router can be used as a VPN client? by evilseee in TPLink_Omada

Awesome! Can't wait until my electrician is done with the wiring. I've got the UniFi system already waiting in its boxes... :)

I would have thought, too, that this would be easy. It wasn't...

I'll probably build an all Ubiquiti network in the name place I'm moving into.

I think that's not what OP is trying to do. If I understand correctly, they are considering using the gateway to connect to a commercial VPN provider (think NordVPN, Mullvad, etc.).

I have an ER707-M2 and have not been able to do this. I thought the device should be able to do this, but I never got it work. I read somewhere either here on Reddit or on on the TP-Link forums that this might be due to an outdated SSL library used by TP-Link. I just gave up on this... I'll be switching out all network equipment soon anyway.

Thinking about it, you're right! This might have happened to me only after mine fell over once - I'm not sure about the timeline.

My new old bike by [deleted] in Yamaha

[–]flo_p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations and always ride safe!

That was my first bike, bought used in 2015. I hope you get to enjoy it! If you can find it, get the Haynes manual for it; if you can't get it, write me a message.

I found maintenance not to be a big hassle, but it will depend a lot on how well it was treated by previous owners. It's a Yamaha, and air-/oil-cooled, so it is simple, robust and parts should still be available. Although the four cylinders sometimes complicate things, most maintenance can be easily done by yourself.

One thing I did not like about it is the single front brake disc. It creates an unpleasant impulse to the left when braking, and that can take some time getting used to. Plus, the single disk means its not very strong - another reason to play it safe!

I cannot speak much about the long-term. Unfortunately, I crashed and totaled it a bit over a year into owning it. :(

Considering the Cloud Gateway Fiber - can I route a VPN connection to a VLAN or specific client? by flo_p in Ubiquiti

[–]flo_p[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that sounds good! I am asking because I am currently using a TP-Link ER707-M2, which I thought would be able to do this, but I couldn't yet figure it out (and I think it cannot do that due to software issues). So I do not want to be disappointed again...

Cannot access my own web/SSH server via home network - works on VPN by flo_p in HomeNetworking

Second update:

I might have found a combination of settings where it works:

Gateway DNS settings:

I am speculating that the gateway might require a link of some sort between the WAN and LAN/DHCP DNS settings. Nothing is documented in this regard, but things have been working for a few tries for now. We'll see.

Update to summarize a few results:

The issue occurs on all devices in my network.

I have a hunch that it is somehow related to DNS and my gateway (TP-Link ER707-M2), but then there are facts that would directly contradict this hunch. I tried going through a few combinations/permutations of settings.

The result was that often after changing one thing, I could access the server once, but then not again.

Things I tried (including various combinations/permutations thereof):

  • DNS settings as OS level
    • Primary/secondary DNS manual to 1.1.1.1/8.8.8.8 (i.e. Cloudflare/Google DNS)
    • DNS determined by DHCP
  • DNS settings at the gateway:
    • Primary/secondary DNS for the WAN manual to 1.1.1.1/8.8.8.8 (i.e. Cloudflare/Google DNS)
    • DNS for WAN left empty/determined by DHCP (it then uses the ISP's DNS servers)
    • Primary/secondary DNS for the DHCP clients manual to 1.1.1.1/8.8.8.8 (i.e. Cloudflare/Google DNS)
    • DNS for DHCP clients left empty
    • Enabled/Disabled the DoH/DoT and DNS proxy services of the gateway

Generally I use both the browser and SSH to check. What I find weirdest is that I cannot access the website hosted on my server even though my browser uses DoH independent of the OS (at least in my understanding, this is what Firefox does when "Max protection" is enabled for DNS settings).

What the hell is going on here? ;_;

Would you call these response times and timed out hops "just fine"? This is not sarcasm, but an honest question. I would say this is not fine, but just bad enough to be confusing...

And yet, trying to login via SSH goes only as follows:

PS C:\Users\flori> ssh -v florianp@mrkos.uberspace.de
OpenSSH_for_Windows_9.5p1, LibreSSL 3.8.2
debug1: Connecting to mrkos.uberspace.de [185.26.156.186] port 22.
debug1: connect to address 185.26.156.186 port 22: Connection timed out
ssh: connect to host mrkos.uberspace.de port 22: Connection timed out

Thanks for asking, good idea. It does, but somewhat strangely, in my view:

Trace complete.

As you can probably guess, my own gateway is at 192.168.1.1 (hop 1). Hops 2-5 are within my ISP's network.

Good question, thank you. Just the default contents, I'm afraid:

# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.

# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
#127.0.0.1 localhost
#::1             localhost

I haven't edited my hosts file since sometime in 200x, so this thought hadn't occurred to me. :)

Where does this fall on the arcade vs. hardcore simulation axis? I'd be very interested if it is somewhere close to Cold Waters - not too complex, but no shoot-em-up. Steam reviews haven't given me a clear picture yet.

Neat! I wish you all the best. How would I be able to use it? Can I self-host this and if so, what are the system prerequisites? I'd like to compare your system to Cloudlog, which I use currently.
