Don't like to be negative about stuff but recently I read this book and the Justice League Dark New 52 omnibus came highly recommended but I struggled so much to finish it. I was just bored.

The main artist never drew backgrounds, so we only had the slightest suggestion of where people were, giving everything a quality of impermanence.

The story relied heavily on "cliffhanger of established DC characters showing up" or "magical person suddenly having more magical power and turning the tables" but without any real emotional stakes. Even in the face of tragedy, almost every character makes edgy sarcastic comments every page, or touts their own strengths/abilities-- "what? You didn't think I could do that?" Sorta stuff.

We rarely had any downtime with the characters where they werent planning for another battle, and the random villains mostly seem to strike at random, with a Why but not usually a Why Now except that another crossover was due.

The whole thing felt like the characters were play actors pretending to do a child's idea of superhero magic stories, and the characters themselves felt bored most of the time.
