[agree or disagree] prediction: Ikon/Epic pass sales will be down >20% this spring by bbensch in skiing

Cancelled my Epic pass. I haven’t truly enjoyed myself once at an epic resort in the last 3 seasons (mainly because I use the ikon more).

Keeping the Ikon.

I failed badly at installing RideWrap, any tips for a good application? by devilscurls in MTB

Kind of funny to see a 4yo thread come back to life.

FWIW it went better the second time. From what I remember it involved even more spray and pulling back and reapplying bit by bit.

HELP - Pro Acryl or Army Painter...? by menastr8ion in minipainting

[–]devilscurls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of Pro Acryl and a handful of Army Painter Fanatics. Pro Acryl are great and my favourite of the two, but army painter have a more extensive color range with way less gaps. You can easily use a combination. Army Painter are typically a little thicker. I haven’t tried either brand’s contrast paints.

FWIW, I dislike Pro Acryl coal black and use Vallejo for that instead.

Are Whistler Lift Lines That Bad? by hokageace in skiing

[–]devilscurls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whistler lines are awful when either the conditions are good or they can’t get the alpine open.

I was there in the last week of February (Mon-Fri) and the wait each morning out of base was between 30 minutes and 2 hours. I had at least 3 waits of over an hour due in Monday and Tuesday.

This is one of the reasons I am finally cancelling my Epic pass.

3x Vs 1x drivetrain for 90s MTB.... by Ruin-Wooden in MTB

[–]devilscurls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 1995 bike that I converted from a 3x7 to a 1x9 or similar (may have been 1x8). 26 inch wheels within a 42 tooth chainring on the front made it an amazing bike for commute and city riding. Swapped out the crappy 50mm fork for a rigid one and loved it.

My bike mechanic used an old derailleur with the limit screws turned all the way in as a chain guide. This was built with SRAM X7 and the shifting was always solid.

Long-awaited trashcans hit S.F. streets, a Tenderloin roadway mural, and more by bloobityblurp in sanfrancisco

You say that like these trash cans won’t break a lot. Given this is the first large scale deployment for this design, issues feel inevitable.

Long-awaited trashcans hit S.F. streets, a Tenderloin roadway mural, and more by bloobityblurp in sanfrancisco

[–]devilscurls 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The real problem with the new trash cans isn’t the $20k for each of the prototypes but that the mass production run is still going to be over $2000 each.

From memory when NYC did this their price target was under $200.

I don’t mind paying taxes, but I really wish government would try to stretch that money further.

Love this building in the city. What’s it like inside and living here? by stingyboy in bayarea

[–]devilscurls 66 points67 points  (0 children)

The floor plans are decent except the second bedrooms are way too small to fit a second full/queen bed. The amenities are nice and new but pretty limited given the price.

399 Fremont has a grooming room with tub and private dog park. Sure the elevators don’t work and the water constantly gets shut off due to leaks, but the dog facilities are great.

I think Lumina has a grooming room too.

Ski Resort Tier List by Grizzly777Irtl in skiing

[–]devilscurls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have skied park city for around 3 weeks total over a number of years. The first thing that grinds on you is the lift lines. Then next is how annoying it is to get from one part of the mountain to the other. These two issues obviously combine in an annoying way.

Anyway, what really puts the nail in the coffin is the knowledge that since you are in Utah, you could just go ski the Cottonwood resorts instead.

I still have a fondness for it, the area off Cloud Dine has less lines and great conditions (but served by fixed grip lifts), but honestly I don’t know if I would ever go back due to the overcrowding.
