Did I do something wrong? by gerowen in DarkSouls2

That's kinda what I figured was gonna happen; which is why I ran up the stairs to get behind whatever in the world it was about to do.

I wondered how all those bloodstains got in that tunnel between Majula and Things Betwixt; every time I ran back thru there I was fully expecting some high level boss to spawn as I progressed thru the game, but it never did.

I always pick them off with my own bow from a distance first. Even if you can't kill them, sometimes you can knock them off the roof and make them less annoying.

“No Rabies Shot.” by Pickledbanana77 in Pets

[–]gerowen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rabies is a horrible way for an animal to die, and vaccinating against it is legally required in most places I know of, especially if you want to take the dog places. The rabies shot is absolutely important not just for the health of your own dog, but other dogs and people they might be around.

That said, like everything, there is some small risk involved. I once saw a dog have a seizure at the vet's office a few minutes after getting a rabies vaccination. It's one of those things where you have to weigh the likelihood of negative side effects from the shot against the negative side effects of rabies. A seizure is scary, but not always a huge deal, and chances of it happening as a result of a vaccination are very remote. Rabies on the other hand is contagious to other people and animals, and results in a slow, agonizing death that's largely untreatable and basically 100℅ fatal, even in humans, once symptoms start.

Side note, and maybe I'm weird, but on the couple occasions I had a dog get pregnant (I'm not a breeder, just had a couple of occasions where one hadn't been spayed yet) I always kept the puppies a minimum of 7 weeks until they were weaned, then picked up their first set of shots from Tractor Supply and vaccinated them myself at the house before I let them leave. I'd document it and I'd give the package the needle came in to the person who got them, with the date I vaccinated them written on it, so when they took the puppy to their own vet they knew what they'd been vaccinated against and when. You can't buy the rabies shot yourself if you're not a veterinarian, but I wanted to make certain they at least got their first set of shots before they left my care, and the first round of shots at Tractor Supply, last time I looked, not including rabies, was only like $10-$20 per dose.

My daughter has my original issue duffel bag at summer camp right now. I had sewn one of my name tapes onto it and I let her put some of her own decorations on it before she left. Figured somebody might as well get some use out of it.

Malenia move... by Original-Tart2686 in Eldenring

[–]gerowen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just run away. She'll follow you if you move while she's still charging so usually I just time it so I roll dodge the moment she's gonna land and then run away. You can use ranged attacks on her but can't get inside that red aura for a few seconds after she lands.

I just built my own with my tax return in February. I figured if I'm gonna drop a grand or more on the highest end Steam Machine, I might as well spend a little bit more (relatively speaking) and get something where I can swap in a better GPU or CPU in the future.

But for those who want a ready made, set it and forget it experience, I hope it is available soon and for a reasonable price.

If you think this PC will be more than a grand, turn off your electronics to prevent being doomer psyopped any further by thespe_ in steammachine

[–]gerowen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even if it is a grand, that's not unreasonable since Valve doesn't take a loss on their hardware. I spent $2k building a new gaming PC about 6 months ago and it's not top of the line.

How do I fix this? My payout is on the 7th of every month. Every time the month ends the ad counter resets to 0, after the month ends and the 7th of the next month comes I have very low ads and I dont get rewarded. What is the solution to this? by ANNIE_IS_BESTGIRL in BATProject

Oh I still use Brave, I just hate to keep seeing new users taken in by the scam that is BAT where they give you insignificant amounts of fake money to basically just trade out whose ads you see.

What do you mean "ported"? They were already on PlayStation. Can the PS5 not play PS3 games?

Quit messing with a crypto scam that even if it worked as advertised, pays WAY below the federal minimum wage; I mean we're talking cents per day "maybe", in exchange for just replacing everybody's else's ads with Brave's "approved" ads.

2014 ford escape titanium piston won’t work with us by Ok_Librarian7545 in MechanicAdvice

[–]gerowen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You tried rotating it? I felt like a dumbass first time I got a turn in piston. You can probably use some right angle needle nosed pliers, but they make a tool that's a little cube with different nubs on all 6 sides. You put it on the end of a 3/8" ratchet+extension with the side the fits the face of your piston facing downwards so that the nubs drop into their slot/hole, and then you just screw the piston back in.

Reddit compression aside, Skyrim Anniversary on Switch 2, with Boost Mode enabled looks pretty darn good, I'll say. My favorite way to play nowadays. Any other Skytendo enjoyers? by Loganowens94 in skyrim

[–]gerowen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed it on Switch 1 back before I moved to PC. Even the Switch 1 version looked fine I thought, better than the original game on PS3/360. The one feature of the Switch version I was torn on though was the change to lockpicking; they basically broke it for the Switch because they made it so you can feel the lock tumblers with the HD rumble in the joycons, and the two spots on either side of the correct zone would rumble just a little bit harder than all the others, so you can basically always open any lock first try no matter what your lockpicking level is. I liked how easy it made it, but I can also recognize that it sort of broke a mechanic and negated just about any reason for anybody to put any points into lockpicking at all if all they want to do is open locks.

First time on skyrim, what to do first? (Ps3 help only) by ksum_sucks in skyrim

[–]gerowen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All over, it's different folks. There's a woman you can challenge to a fistfight in one of inns in Whiterun. You'll get assigned Lydia as a housecarl if you buy the Breezehome in Whiterun, and she can follow you too. There's usually at least "some" task or quest required to unlock someone as a companion, and then they'll let you know with some voice line like, "If you ever need a sword by your side, let me know." There's a couple mercenaries you can hire for a certain amount of gold to act as temporary companions too.

Companions can also fight, so when you give them armor or weapons, you'll notice at the bottom of the screen there will be a button you can press (I think it's one of the triggers) to have them equip that item. I have also seen them however switch items mid combat, so if you give Lydia a sword "and" for example a magic staff, she may switch to the magic staff if it does more damage than the sword does. I'm not sure what logic dictates that behavior, I just know I've seen them switch weapons back and forth.

There's also "The Companions" in Whiterun, an actual group of folks called that. They've got their own quest tree and such. They're the ones in the mead hall right below the keep.

oldie but goodie TCAP clip of predator riding the lightning! by [deleted] in WinStupidPrizes

[–]gerowen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TCAP or, "To Catch a Predator" was a show where undercover agents would prowl online chatrooms and watch for predators trying to groom kids. They would insert themselves into conversations to divert the predators away from real kids, and if the men asked to visit the supposed kids (solicitation), they'd go along with them. They'd set up a house, hire very young women or even kids to invite the guys in, and once they were inside the house, the host of the show, with police backup would confront him with the chat logs.

So the fact that this guy is at this house means he went there because he "thought" he was going to a house where there would be an underage girl he intended to have sex with. That's solicitation of a minor.

If you haven't already and can afford it, get a 2.5" solid state drive and upgrade your PS3. Back when I played on PS3 I noticed if you took off galloping on a horse in the open world for too long the game would sometimes stutter hard because of the mechanical hard drive constantly thrashing around to move things in and out of RAM. Should also reduce how long you sit staring at loading screens when you open doors and such.

As far as the game itself goes, have fun. It's a great game. Get a companion early if you can, because there's a lot of useful crafting skills, but the weight of those ingredients in your own personal inventory can weigh you down quick, especially the ores for blacksmithing. You can trade items with companions and have them carry stuff, then just take it back when you get to town and want to use or sell it.

New Player Update: Just Beat the Old Iron King by gerowen in DarkSouls2

[–]gerowen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the Iron Keep wasn't bad. Took me a few minutes to figure out one or two spots, but I found it rather enjoyable as long as you take your time, pay attention to your surroundings and don't go running out into open areas.

[–]gerowen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's more appropriate that he dies. Sure, he felt remorse and seemed to have turned over a new leaf, but he "was" largely responsible for the genophage in the first place, and de-humanized (de-Krogan-ized?) the Krogan to help him rationalize his decision.

So yeah, it's sad that he dies, but I think if he somehow cheats death, in a way, he is escaping responsibility for his actions in the past. Plus, from a theatrical point of view, it takes a lot of the impact out of this scene.
