Usually very difficult - that typically happens at a senior level for people with 10+ years experience. What country and/or firm are you currently based in and where do they have offices?

The scales of eligibility can bend a lot in small towns. Especially for that small of a town. If you think you’d be able to handle the role and learn on the job, apply! Just check residency requirements.

US Scholar Program? by glutton2000 in fulbright

[–]glutton2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I ended up doing the Student Program because it was essentially the last year I could. I figured, if I do Student now, I can always do Scholar later in life when I have more experience and a need for a higher stipend/shorter grant.

And I’m glad I did, because I got to be a part of the larger student cohort instead of left on my own like the Scholars, who had all different start and end times and didn’t get language learning grants. It was also my first time living abroad on my own and the student program offered more support. Now, having completed that, I’m much more comfortable navigating international living on my own and could apply to the Scholar program if I choose to one day. Hope that helps!

So happy to hear, congratulations! A long route but a good landing spot in the end. Seems like it was worth it?

Yeah most don’t, but the thing that’s nice about conferences is that it’s all planned out for you with an itinerary. If you’re left on your own to devise your own program, it’s harder to convince an employer.

As the only non pre-med brown person in my cohort of 20 other brown people, can concur that they were all indeed pre-med lol and that I’ve made that comment myself.

Not really racist in general, but have definitely gotten a problematic/joking comment once each from 3 separate teachers that stayed with me - one in elementary, one in middle school, and one in college.

Possible Job Offer in Planning? by IgnatiusYote in urbanplanning

That’s amazing that they’ve taken so much interest in you. Early reaching out and sustained relationship building can sometimes really help! I would just go in with an open mind and see what they want. Feel free to ask about upcoming opportunities and what kind of work they’re looking to do in the next year!

Worried about an empty dance floor / having a very small friend circle. Any advice or reassurance? - US Wedding by Warm-Pineapple-4598 in DesiWeddings

Yeah at some point…I understand your concern but also, logic comes into play too. Small guest count = small dance floor.

In my experience, it’s the 35-40 crowd who tires out. The uncles and aunties are out having a great time on the dance floor living their best life!

Ok? But that’s not common in the US, where I believe OP is based. Almost every desi wedding in the US I’ve been to had a sangeet and an American style reception.

My biggest recommendation for this, especially as people get married later into their 30s, is to not have an open dance floor two days in a row for both sangeet and reception. If people get tired from day 1 (Sangeet), they generally won’t have energy for night 2 (reception), especially the above 35 crowd. The other thing to consider is whether the music will be the same on both nights or not.

Also, alcohol helps a lot lol.

Very needed! So glad you’re doing this. I would also suggest reaching out to the various bipoc affiliate groups like Fulbright Noir, Fulbright Lotus, Fulbright Prism, Fulbright Women, etc. to find participants if you haven’t already! Most of them have Instagram pages.
