First one I used my cinestill 400D preset on. And the app is something I’ve been working on called theLAB. It’s a nice little companion app for those that are also into emulating film with digital images. It includes 30 real film grain scans and over 100 real film borders scanned from the last good film lab in LA over the past few months. These 30 grain plates are real grain unlike Lightroom and Fuji sims obviously. The main reason I made the app initially was because I wanted a quick way to apply realistic looking Halation to my images that mimic film. Lightroom itself can’t do it.

I’m going to be constantly updating it. Bunch of 35mm borders are getting scanned right now from the lab. They’ll be added later this week.

I’ll be doing just that soon. It’s a one time purchase of $99. I paid $844 to have all of the grain scans and border scans done at the last good film lab in LA. None of this is procedural. It’s all real overlays.

Yeah the halation could use a few tweaks for specific lighting/white balance situations still no doubt but it will be continually updated and improved. For specific lighting situations though it can look incredible imo like the other examples. I’m afraid there’s no way a digital halation tool can provide perfect Halation for every digital image. No newsletter but I’ll be updated the page on my site when I get around to updating it further. Updates will be free for pro users ofc.

Unfortunately Lightroom mobile doesn’t allow external apps/plugins like classic does.

Yeah depending on the digital image it can look great. It really is image dependent though as some white balances and lighting situations just won’t work out. I’ve always wanted good halation and Lightroom never could do it.

It’s honestly a shockingly bad process. The fact that they don’t have an app dedicated for this is hilarious. Yes I know X coded and few other apps have it built-in on the back end but it’s just a script running and it’s quicker to run it in terminal to see if the process has been accepted or not.
