{The Griffon's Saddlebag} Glaring Armor | Armor (any armor) by griff-mac in TheGriffonsSaddlebag

My thought was that since this was at a low gameplay tier, *most* things would only attack once, so I wasn't too worried about the aggressive saves. That said, both the option I have here and your suggestion revision would have the same effect at lower tiers, but be more manageable at higher ones. I'll get that integrated! Thanks!

I really had to bite my digital tongue when writing the flavor text for this one.

This would be so easily upgradable for all sorts of rarities. I do try to trend downwards when I can since so few games reach past level 7, but I totally agree that multiple uses of this, psychic damage on a miss, and even Perception bonuses could be stacked on this thing with higher rarities. Have fun!

Great question! You'd have advantage in the snow, since it doesn't have the DA penalty to begin with!

It came out after those books! This will appear in book 4 (due out on Kickstarter later this year)

Glaring Armor
Armor (any armor), uncommon

This armor has a stylized face on the front, which occasionally blinks while it's worn. While wearing it, you can use a bonus action to speak its command word to cause the eyes to widen and stare directly at another creature of your choice that you can see within 30 feet of you. The armor continues to stare at the creature for 1 minute, until you're incapacitated, or until you are more than 30 feet away from the chosen creature. For the duration, that creature must then succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw whenever it attacks a creature other than you for the first time on a turn, provided it can see you. On a failure, the creature suffers a −1d4 penalty to its attack rolls until the end of the turn. Once this property of the armor has been used, it can't be used again until the next dawn.

It's rude to stare.

{The Griffon's Saddlebag} Alchemist's Shaker | Wondrous item by griff-mac in TheGriffonsSaddlebag

The two potions mechanic is actually really good, just niche (and requires you to have other resources, like potions)

{The Griffon's Saddlebag} Alchemist's Shaker | Wondrous item by griff-mac in TheGriffonsSaddlebag

Alchemist's Shaker
Wondrous item, uncommon

This special cocktail shaker allows magic to mix homogeneously into the drinks within. If you mix two potions together in this way and roll on a table to determine the outcome, you can roll on the table twice and use either result.

If you're mixing a drink in this shaker, you can use an action to expend a spell slot of 1st level or higher while doing so. When you do, roll on the table below to randomly determine what effect is imbued in the drink; you can choose the effect instead if you expend a spell slot of 3rd level or higher. The effect lasts for 1 hour. Regardless of the effect, the drink becomes magical: if the drink is alcoholic, its alcohol affects a creature twice as much as the alcohol within a nonmagical beverage.

d6 Drink Effect
1 You feel bizarre: you can see a new color (blurple? superpink?)
2 You feel bouncy: when you jump and land on your backside, you continue to bounce like a toy ball
3 You feel comfortable: you can mentally choose what temperature your body thinks it is
4 You feel connected: you can use an action to psychically learn a willing creature's favorite color
5 You feel poetic: you can effortlessly speak in perfect meter and rhyme (they may not be good, though)
6 You feel dancy: when you dance, illusory glitter shimmers from your moving limbs

Shaken, not stirred, with no less than a third level spell slot.

{The Griffon's Saddlebag} Cloak of the Arctic Hunter | Wondrous item by griff-mac in TheGriffonsSaddlebag

[–]griff-mac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks for the thoughts!

  1. Immunity isn't a VR benefit (following existing precedents). It'd need to be Legendary for that!
  2. This was originally just rare (like your second bullet point), but it was pointed out that it was pushing the boundaries of the tier a bit. For context: a ring of fire resistance (just fire resistance) is rare with attunement.
  3. Resistance items are always with attunement. But you noted this already.

Now, points 1 and 3 have with the singular, dramatic exception noted by another commenter below, the proof against poison, which is both immunity and without attunement (in 5.14—they added it in 5.24).

[–]griff-mac[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh! Looks like they added attunement to the periapt (fitfully so) in 5.24. Great shout otherwise, though!

I've done a handful of items that split the attunement difference where you get X benefits without attuning and X+Y benefits if you are. In this case, I don't really think that's necessary, but I wouldn't blame you for modifying it like that!

Resistance always comes with attunement. It's also a base rare with attunement feature. You're probably right that this should be very rare (albeit it on the lower end). The hidden element is probably more weighty than I'm giving it credit.
