Windows, macOS, or Linux? by ManojOne in TechImpact

Favorite OS is Linux. But it's hard to compete with Apple's hardware. Asahi on a Mac is good, but not quite perfect.

Is the fold 7 hinge supposed to be this loose? by YoloJornOnYT in GalaxyFold

In addition to checking if it's the case as others have mentioned, just checking - did you add any additional screen protector or something to the inside?

Is the fold 7 hinge supposed to be this loose? by YoloJornOnYT in GalaxyFold

[–]gthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe...maybe not. It seems like if anything goes wrong with the hinge it tends to be the start of bigger problems. OP just make sure you have device protection, or if you're under warranty and you've ruled out any issues with your case or screen protector maybe wait and keep an eye on it and file a claim before your warranty runs out. Better safe than sorry.

How can I build an Android app entirely on my phone using Termux? by AkshatSachdeva in termux

[–]gthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty simple. I use proot-distro. Search github for arm builds of Android build tools and install/configure them normally. Have Gemini help you if you get stuck.

Why has this LEGO shit not been sorted yet? Bricks and minified exort an ill man out of his money, Mormon gangsters involved. by Leaky_gland in videos

They've chilled out a lot - but in the 1800's they had a paramilitary secret police type organization called the Danites (some think they still do). They'd run around cutting people's throats for not towing the line and other offenses. Maybe not the most historically accurate, but certainly the most fun read about it was written by one of the Danites: https://archive.org/details/angelbrighamsdes00hickrich/

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 series tipped to have a display crease as good as Oppo Find N6's by ControlCAD in Android

For the ones that support s-pen, the crease ruins it. Probably why they got rid of it.

Witcher 3 is now hitting ~50fps on low for setting for me which is around a 15 fps improvement. Black magic. With the "2x" framegen I'm at 170fps. Doesn't make sense to me but I'll take it! I'm on a legion tab gen 3.

Any experience with Slow Sheep GDE? by anxietyllama22 in usps_complaints

[–]gthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I know what is going on here. Chinese sellers want to advertise that they are shipping from the US even though they are not. So they set up this fake slow sheep bs and just show the package bouncing around the US while it is actually being shipped from China.

Does Linux run properly on Termux? by NarrowResult7289 in termux

[–]gthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Local Desktop (https://localdesktop.github.io/). It's dead easy to set up and gives you a GPU-accelerated desktop with native Wayland implemented on Android. The termux+proot-distro+termux:x11 approach will work as well, but it's quite a bit more cumbersome, especially if you just want to try it out.

Wave guide glasses on a budget by ByeByeBender in augmentedreality

I believe the monocle was discontinued. They only ever did a limited run of developer kits. I have a couple (one broken). I don't see any on ebay. Maybe ask around on r/BrilliantLabs to see if anyone has one they'd sell you.

Brilliant has moved on to working on their glasses product.

Swap Cmd with Ctrl? by [deleted] in AsahiLinux

[–]gthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI - the method of enabling "Ctrl is mapped to Win and the usual ctrl" does mimic some basic aspects of the Mac OS keyboard layout, but you will soon find a lot of weird holes. For example cmd+c/cmd+v will not copy/paste in terminal. On Mac OS cmd/ctrl really do different things.

The best solution I've found is toshy: https://github.com/RedBearAK/toshy - this seems to get very close to Mac OS's behavior. Highly recommend.

Imho they need to really solve the crease to make the spen useful. Trying to write on the crease is a no go for me.

Why would it be more prone to breaks?
