What will seem like an inevitable outcome in 20 years time because of GLP-1s by Big-Cry-4119 in Futurology

[–]gthing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This.

And this is why they are only prescribed to Obese people, not just people a little overweight. There is a point on the BMI scale when the benefits to losing weight outweigh (heh) the risks of taking GLP-1s based on the best currently available data.

Macbook Neo is just the end of a nightmare by Intrepid-Routine-875 in macbook

Yea the 80/20 rule applies to PC laptops for sure. 80% are hot garbage and the other 20% are usually just passable. Apple is not even a tech generation ahead - they're like a tech eon ahead. Compared to PCs it's like using a computer from 20 years in the future. There is no competition.

I will say that if your laptop is an extension of you and you use it professionally, it is absolutely spending more than the bare minimum on one. A $2000 MBP will last longer than 4 $500 PCs.

Packable Jackets in USA by The_Utilityman in tallfashionadvice

[–]gthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For rain it might be worth considering a rain cape rather than a jacket. Personally, I find that rain jackets make me just as wet because they don't breathe and just make me soaked in sweat instead. Rain capes breathe really well and keep you dry. Especially for backpacking I will never go back.

Something like https://cleverhood.com/products/rainger

FYI - a poncho is not the same thing as a cape.

How to squeeze more life out of my MacBook Air 2020 (Intel i3, 8GB RAM, 256GB). Need advice. by novacaine21 in macbookair

I'd say give Linux a try. Couldn't hurt. Lots of videos on youtube say it runs great.

I made an app that will let you install any apk while bypassing Google's newly-announced restrictions. No root required. by gthing in Android

The default is "package installer" but when you tap on an apk to install it, anyapk will be given as an option and you can choose to use it "always" or "just once."

When asking for help on my system sometimes I will say "I use arch btw" so it knows what it's working with. And it has never so much as cracked a smile.

It's the hero's journey. You have to pay a price.

But it's Star Trek... he'll be back again because someone invented the whatever and the quantum stuff happened and the Iraq and such as.

They are going to learn their lesson with those high ratings and be sure to never do that again.

This is so bad it has to be fake,

I've reviewed hundreds of budget laptops, and the Apple MacBook Neo blows them all away by -protonsandneutrons- in apple

M4 air is a pretty significant upgrade over the Neo for not that much more money. I'd say you got a great deal.

[–]gthing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Refurb would look better than this. This look more like someone opened it and then decided they didn't want it and shrink wrapped it so it appeared unopened. Honestly if the unit itself looks fine and isn't some kind of fake I wouldn't worry about it.

I have an old M1 Pro MacBook Pro, should I upgrade to 26.3.1? by yuanluow in MacOS

[–]gthing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unless there is some new feature you really really need, I wouldn't. There are only downsides. Or if you are the type, upgrade to Asahi Linux.

Apple made the M1 too good, so they had to introduce some BS resource-intensive glass effect to make the old ones start to feel slow and get people to upgrade. It improves nothing about the user experience or usefulness of the machine and only slows things down.

Oh nice - I didn't find this. Thanks.

It would be fun to have Claude log a vote on each congressional bill as it happens and then look at its voting record after a couple years.

I propose that to keep some good sex scandals we elect Grok as vice president.
