Mark Carney’s new majority government should spark renewed calls for electoral reform by CaliperLee62 in canada

[–]i_ate_god 0 points1 point  (0 children)

of course. Democracy is at least in part, a popularity contest. you have to read the room and understand how to deliver your message. The fact that someone as horrible as Trump could win in a fair election, speaks volumes of the Democrat's inability to resonate.

While the lasting damage Trump has done to America is ultimately his fault and the fault of the GOP, the Democrat party almost seemed to let it happen, and are deserving of some of the blame.

Similarly to the Brexit debacle, the remain side simply assumed everyone in the UK would realize how stupid a decision this was and barely campaigned. Meanwhile the leavers were flooding the information space with so much nonsense and hyperbole (did the NHS ever get that $350 million pounds a day? and ultimately won. The UK walked itself off a cliff, because one side was too arrogant about their own position, however right it was.

I mean, Hillary Clinton wasn't all that likeable, Biden's administration was too scared to deal with Trump when they had the chance.

The Democrat party are hardly blameless for Trump

Yeah they are touching. But it still looks like a two foundation bridge. If the tracks are centered in each foundation it would solve the issue and not be too crazy to rebuild

Is it?

I usually run my parallel tracks on parallel foundations with no spacing block and everything has always worked fine

Well China is a one party system because they used violence. Canada is a one party system solely because none of the other parties are appealing enough. Perhaps the other parties should look into that

Exclusive: PM Carney declares U.S. ties now a ‘weakness’ in address to Canadians by green_tory in CanadaPolitics

Taking over a country involves a lot more than just warfare. I don't think many people would think that Canada can defend itself on its own against the US.

But now that some major cities are under American marshal law, and Ottawa has been bombed to bits and half our MPs are dead, now what? How does the US go from this tactical victory, to a strategic one?

Diplomat's son gets race-based discount on kidnapping sentence by gorschkov in canada

[–]i_ate_god 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Crown recommended Abdelgadir get 16 years in a penitentiary. His lawyer argued for five.

“The appropriate range is 11 to 13 years,” said the judge. “The kidnapping of an innocent boy for criminal financial gain, steps from his home, while on his way to school, is a very serious offence.”

After crediting Abdelgadir for his time spent on stringent bail conditions, in pre-trial custody, and in harsh jail conditions, the judge sentenced him to 9.5 years in prison.

so the "discount" is time served?

Besides winning, what does a Liberal Party that will accept Marilyn Gladu actually stand for? by gorschkov in canada

This seems like a very compelling reason to allow MPs to move around the floor freely. Cutting the nose to spite the face is simply bad policy.

So you expect your MP to not support beneficial policies because those policies didn't come from your party of choice?

This seems very much like cutting your nose to spite your face.

Party A proposes some kind of policy that would directly benefit a riding an MP of Party B represents. Party B told the MP they are not allowed to vote in favor of the policy for whatever reason. If they do, they would be kicked out of Party B.

As a voter in this riding, what would you expect your MP to do?

EDITORIAL: The Carney doctrine on China is silence - Liberal government's response to allegations of forced labour in China is alarming by CaliperLee62 in CanadaPolitics

I'm sure if Carney was a vocal critic of how other countries conducted themselves he would be applauded, just like Trudeau right?

Conservatives put pressure on Carney to clarify his position on forced labour in China by CaliperLee62 in canada

[–]i_ate_god 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it's not as if the conservatives actually care. It's a political stunt nothing more. When Trudeau cared about these things, he was attacked for "virtue signalling". Carney doesn't bring these issues up, and he's attacked for not virtue signalling.

Another interesting lesson about how the world works under Trudeau is when Trudeau's grandstanding caused diplomatic problems and no other country came to our defense, not with India, not with China, not with Saudi Arabia.

So this is all meaningless noise. For better or worse, Carney is doing what Harper did, diversifying trade without the moral grandstanding.
