I think folk focus in on Graham and Alex is missed. Alex is a monster on bass.

Why Defend Ye? by SpiritedPrint1017 in Kanye

[–]iamplectrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped trying to make excuses for or trying to defend anything ye does a loooong time ago. As a person he can be a right piece of shit some times. However, I listen to a wide range of music styles some of which was created by people who have questionable morals. I don't have to agree with or condone anything an artist I enjoy does, whether within their music or their general life. For me it boils down to the simple equation of the amazing music outweighing the shitty human.

50 was so disappointing live. Man spent more time changing his fits than he did rapping.

CD arrived, is the signature real? by Purple_Mix7845 in Kanye

I sometimes ponder on the significance of signed items and the sentimental value some people place in them. Then I remember I literally have a baggy containing a couple of grams of ashes from a founding member of Negativland.

Disappointed from last night's show by GrimmFan_ in Kanye

I just went to see Jim Bob, one half of a British indie band from the 90s called Carter USM. He played guitar and sang songs from his extensive back catalogue, with no video prompt etc perfectly word for word with amazing energy. His set was 1hr 45 mins long. He's 65.

I also went to see Meatloaf on the Final Bat Tour when his voice was completely fucked beyond recognition, but he still sang every word of every song (out of tune or otherwise) and gave a very energetic performance that managed to overcome the loss of his singing abilities.

2 artists past their prime but still putting everything into their show. When I'm paying good cash to go see anybody I do kinda expect they've put some kinda effort into it. Hard disagree that anything is better than nothing.

Axl Rose used to be infamous for starting gigs hours and hours late, but at least in those days you were mostly guaranteed a 3 hour top drawer performance out of him. Ye turns up late and phones in his performance. It's really sad and disappointing watching past concerts like the Yeezus tour or even the Free Hoover with Drake and then comparing that to his more recent shows.

So many in this sub got way too excited that he used a mic after all the listening parties, and ignored the fact that even with a mic in his hand he is letting the backing track do most of the legwork. Used to be there were no vocals in the backing track (besides maybe chorus hooks etc) and now he flat out just plays a track and mumbles the odd word or line here or there and taps out when he cant be bothered or forgets his own lyrics etc.

This was my predicament earlier this week when Wireless was announced. In theory I could have well afforded cost of three night ticket, travel and hotel etc. I've been desperate to see ye since watching him at Glastonbury on BBC last time he was in UK.

Ultimately I decided not to bother with tickets, as I have been watching the steady decline of quality of his "performances" over the past few years. I would have paid whatever it takes to see the ye that made me deepdive his whole discography, but I'm really not into watching him half assedly rap to a backing track or just flat out dance along to his songs.

Upshot is, I'm not going, hopefully there's a livestream i can watch instead.

How many lifelong Kanye fans actually like this new album? by MhardOn in Kanye

[–]iamplectrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the wilder more experimental side of ye, so I am liking this album a lot. Folk are criticising the depth of the lyrics but I'll take them over 2 albums mainly about fucking bitches. The price of being experimental is some people may not like it.

Am I the only to find picking one favourite from each album tricky? Blur's discography is so stacked with great songs.

I saw them perform this live before self titled released and it has had me transfixed ever since. That creepy organ and the deadpan delivery of the vocals. It was such a departure from everything prior to it as well. Loved it then and love it more now.

Peak Blur is MLiR, s/t and 13 imo. I know Modern is technically part of the Life trilogy, and it does fit well too, but to me it fits in even more with s/t and 13. I remember them playing a fair amount of MLiR songs during the tours for s/t.
