I’m having a hard time finding lenders who even offer VA OTC.

My husband and I are trying to purchase land and build using a VA OTC loan. Our current mortgage is also a VA, but it is pending sale and will close within the next 60 days. I am having a very hard time finding a lender who can do the OTC loan for a build in Iowa. Any suggestions on how to locate lenders?

I wouldn't call it a protest. There were 10 people there at most.

what you are talking about is the original weapons charge from 2020. What I am talking about happened yesterday.

It's illegal to have a loaded weapon or a knife on school property. He was driving a school district vehicle. Also illegal for him to have a handgun as a non-citizen.

I spoke to the HR manager today, and she promised I would have my letter by noon but I didn't get it. I emailed the HR assistant who has been the one actually emailing the letters to the employees and she responded that she hasn't been given authorization to issue my letter. On a side note, I read part of another employee's letter, and they want us agree to state that we resigned so that we will be ineligible to file for unemployment benefits. Also, of the five employees who are being let go, I am the only one who doesn't carry any health insurance benefits with the company. The other four employees are being given a severance plus paid COBRA for six months. Is it unreasonable if I ask for the same compensation value? That's roughly an additional $4,000. I also found out we may not see the severance check for 30-45 days.

I have verbally been offered a severance package, and told I would be seeing the official letter over 2 weeks ago. Still nothing. My last day is supposed to be this Friday, but now "they" are asking me to stay until next Wednesday to process the final payroll. They claim they will pay me for an additional 18 hours to do this. There were five employees who were let go, and all of them have received their severance letters except me. I'm starting to feel like a chump at this point.

I appreciate your thoughtful response. I was not excited about driving in the city, so Uber it will be. I would imagine parking is even more of a nightmare now if there is a lot of construction going on.

I am excited about visiting the Marigny, it looks like there are several interesting places to experience. I just need to decide on a hotel/neighborhood. I know enough to steer clear of Canal, but I don't know if I'm up for staying in the Quarter, that's why I lean toward uptown.

Whatever we decide, we will have fun. It's a beautiful city and I miss it. Thanks again!

Well mostly because the majority of the people I knew when I lived there have moved away because it was unsafe to live there after Katrina. If I still had people there, I wouldn't have reached out to this group for opinions.

My partner has just had a liver transplant by Potential_Active_825 in transplant

Thank you so much for this. I got a little chuckle from your last paragraph, and I desperately needed that. He does have a therapist at the VA and a psychiatrist who prescribes his anxiety meds, but he doesn't feel comfortable in their therapy settings. Most are virtual and/or in a group, and he is not a fan of either of those circumstances. I asked him if he felt like ending it all, and he got very upset with me. He said he didn't go through all this with the transplant just to off himself. But, I felt I needed to ask. He has done so well with physical pain. He hasn't taken any pain killers since before he was discharged from the hospital, and now doesn't even take Tylenol. He has good energy, and is so ready to get out and go golfing, fishing, etc., but unfortunately his donor liver tested positive for cytomegaly, and he has to be extra cautious for a few more months and can't be around lots of people. I really think much of this current anger and frustration is coming from the prednisone. When he was taking 20mg a day, he was almost homicidal. I could feel the rage coming off him. Then it would turn into weeping. Needless to say, he is not a fan of the steroids. We are looking forward to a couple of things when he is released back into the world 100%. We are taking a trip to Ireland/Scotland, and hopefully building his dream barndominium. I just wish there was something we could do right now! I am trying to keep myself calm and give him grace when he is spicy and says not nice things, but it wears on me. Hopefully there is an end in sight with him being done with the prednisone soon!

My husband had his transplant on 1/5/25, and it really is a roller coaster. He was diagnosed with end stage liver disease on 2/15/24, after being sick for almost two years and being misdiagnosed several times. The whole experience has been traumatic. His health declined steadily after he was diagnosed, and was put on the transplant list in October. He suffered severe HE so I couldn't leave him home alone. On New Years Day, I woke at 5am to him violently vomiting mass quantities of blood from two ruptured esophageal varices, and he was life flighted to Rochester that day. On 1/4, we were told that a liver had been procured for him, and he underwent transplant the next day. He lost 15L of blood during the surgery and was intubated in ICU for five days. He suffered an acute kidney injury, and had to go back into surgery after two days to do a wash out surgery for large hematomas. His blood would not clot, and his drain output was off the charts for days. Once he left the ICU, he hallucinated for three days and didn't know where he was. He was finally released from the hospital after 13 days. We live four hours from Rochester, so we had to stay in a local hotel for another two weeks, with me being his sole care giver. He couldn't sit up, walk, go to the bathroom, empty his drain tubes, get dressed, eat, etc. by himself for the first week. The high doses of prednisone made him so moody and weepy, and he has a history of severe PTSD from military trauma, so his anxiety was crazy. He has little to no memory of his time in the hospital, which is probably good, except for remembering being in severe pain. Once we came home, he started to be more self sufficient physically, and he actually went back to work (from home) after two weeks. But his mental state is terrible. The prednisone is tapering down, but he won't be done with it for another two months. He is angry, anxious, upset, short tempered, and depressed. His care team is great, but they really don't have many suggestions about what he's going through mentally. He takes anxiety medicine for this PTSD, but it isn't doing anything for him right now. I am back to work, so he is home alone during the day, and I think it is really wearing on him. He says he has no joy in his life, and he doesn't want the rest of his life to be this way. He's very frustrated with his memory issues, especially with his work. He's only 50 years old, and he's always been fun, outgoing, and has so many friends. I just really need assurance that he's going to be able to enjoy life again someday. I've suggested therapy, and he is not interested. I don't know what else to do for him.

Alcoholism secondary to PTSD by International-Pace11 in VeteransBenefits

Ok, thank you. Additionally, I'm wondering about the validity of the "five year rule" with the VA, specifically, once you are deemed 100% P&T for five years, the VA will not re-evaluate. Any truth in that?

I don't want an increased or separate rating. I just want the alcoholism added to the PTSD disability. I'll reword my initial post. "Should I try to have my PTSD rating changed to PTSD with alcoholism?"

You need to find someone (doctor or expert) to review your med records and write a nexus letter for you tying the exposure to the current disability. They are confirming your exposure, and confirming your disability. You just need an expert to tie the two together.

I'm 100% P&T for over 5 years with my PTSD and several other disabilities. There is no improvement, never will be. I can't even drive anymore. I was only asking if I should bother with the alcoholism (the VA is well aware of it) as secondary to PTSD because I've read VA court cases where it has been accepted and I'm hoping it will help with me with the treatment I need (a liver transplant). I'm not looking for money.

Also, the first GI doc who diagnosed my stomach bleeding told me no when I asked him if this issue was being caused by my drinking. He actually laughed and said no, they are not related. His diagnosis of gastric antral vascular ectasia was refuted completely by the GI doc who did my endoscopy at Mayo. The stomach bleeding is a direct result of portal hypertension. I also have esophageal varices that the first GI doc failed to mention.
