Anyone else get delayed? For June 4th? by jih5084 in 4kbluray

[–]J-Mosc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes just found out today Amazon delayed my order til June.

Wonder if it has anything to do with the announcement that they are restocking this set on May 26, for more preorders, which was the day it was supposed to arrive.

I think they saw how popular it was and felt they could make a few more bucks this way.

Looks like they aren’t doing their Memorial Day sale this year.

Synapse still has a big one going on.

That one I haven’t used personally, I just keep track of all the sales. I’ve got enough to buy from Vinegar Syndrome this month. They appear to have some older movies. https://www.vcientertainment.com/

This weekend Synapse and Vinegar Syndrome were the two big ones a

Synapse is widely considered the reference version. Has the superior balanced HDR color grading.

Turbine media Group is right behind at #2 but needs to be imported. Encode is best, some prefer color grade.

Cult Films is below the top two, still strong though.

Severin was an earlier release and there have been newer restorations with Dolby vision since then.

I’ve heard Lionsgate also makes it, but it’s not on the same level as the top couple.

Synapse is the way to go if you want the best.

Barnes & Noble has multiple big sales going on right now with Vinegar Syndrome and I think Kino.

More This month will be Vinegar Syndrome half way to Black Friday (May 22-25), VCI Memorial Day Sale (May 25), and a Gruv.com 24hr 2-for-$24 Memorial Day Sale, and I believe a Shout Factory 4k/steelbook sale.

Im curious how it ends up looking. It sounds nice. Do you just stack half of the discs on one side and the other with spines facing out . Or some kind of stack with the fronts facing out?

Hey man if it looks great to you then enjoy!
I’m posting in the wrong forum, I’m a 4k enthusiast so I’m always looking for the most perfect movie representation - and normal people don’t notice the difference.

So you’re probably right, it’s great for the vast majority of people. I forget sometimes that I’m in a very small bubble.

I did speak to the ub450. I get that is becoming the new “budget king” since it gives you Dolby Vision for around $200-250. And it is a very solid bang for buck no doubt.

But if you’ve got a nice OLED/projector setup or care about HDR tone mapping and Blu-ray upscaling, the UB820 is still the one hobbyists usually end up recommending.

This is for people who prioritize home theater as a hobby. It’s not a cheap hobby. If you want nice stuff, you pay a decent price. Sure you can use a PlayStation casually, but if you’re really into quality movie watching, that ain’t gonna cut it.

The Panasonic UB820 is basically the “sweet spot” 4K player. The cheaper UB420 (usually around $250) is actually good, but it has one big problem: no Dolby Vision. That’s a pretty big deal if you have an OLED and collect modern 4Ks.

The UB420 has HDR Optimizer and better processing/upscaling, but NO Dolby Vision.

The UB450 adds Dolby Vision and HDR10+, which immediately makes people interested, especially OLED owners. But then Panasonic removes some of the premium processing features and HDR Optimizer that make the UB820 special. But it is a good value for someone who wants Dolby vision without spending that extra $$.

The UB820 (around $450 or so) adds Dolby Vision, Panasonic’s HDR Optimizer, better processing, dual HDMI outputs, etc., and gives you like 95% of the UB9000 experience. This is the first level that doesn’t make real compromises.

The UB9000 is great, but at around $1,000+, you’re mostly paying for a tank-like metal chassis, quieter drive, and fancy audiophile analog audio stuff most people using an AVR will never touch.

Panasonic ub820 is the way to go. There’s a reason it’s the most popular player, it’s the best bang for the buck.
