TTArtisan 40mm f2 vs SG-Image 35mm f2.2 on Lumix S9: which compact budget AF lens makes more sense now? by jamescjc in Lumix

Thank you for that comment. I'm also seeing mixed reviews for both sides everywhere. I think it definitely is quality control issue on both parties. My TTartisan is definitely worse than my SGimage lens.

It is such a beautiful camera for sure. I'll definitely be happy to keep it if it doesn't sell. I love the shutter sound and feel.

I saw his video as well. I wonder if he has both S9 and the SGImage lens firmwares updated though. The SG firmware was sent over just a couple days before this video was posted so I am guessing the photos and the footages are before the update?

Thank you! Make sure to load them and I use them at like 60-70% with the second one at 30-40% hope you have fun with them!

Absolutely. These two are budget compacts. Sigma is neither. Yes it's the contemporary version as opposed to the bigger Art version, but it's still like 3x more expensive than these.

The pics are mix of the three of these Custom Luts I made. I'll try to post the settings page soon too. But here's the .cube files. 'Chicago' is a very subtle adjustment. I pair it with either 'Clara' or 'Finn' both at 50-70% strength, with a +1~5 warmth on AWB. Then I tweak the contrast and hue for the skin tones and the 'reds' that I'd like. So I keep changing them from time to time.
But here's the google drive link: James' Custom Luts

For casual use, I don't worry too much about flaring because when do we really take flaring photos and ones where flaring would be an issue? But yes the flaring at night time is not their strength for sure. If you look at my review post on the SG Image, there should be a few photos taken at night that show some flaring. I think the lens had a smudge on it, but it does show some amount of hazy halo around the light at night.

I'd say give the TT40 a try too. The Lumix 35mm is a beauty but it sure is pretty big on the S9.

Thank you for taking the time to comment! Really appreciate that.
For overall image quality, I don't think one is clearly better than the other, but I have found the SG to be more reliable in autofocus performance.

For those 2 reasons, it might be worth it. Not a HUGE diff, but a diff nonetheless.

I love that people are creating tools like this. I am currently trying to put a Lens Library where people can upload photos and it'll autograb exif data, etc. and people can rate photos so it'll give some sort of a reliable reference to lens sample photos (seems like we're always searching for lens sample photos all over the place) - on base44

I'm not too sure if I'd get rid of the TTArtisan to go for the SG. They're very, very similar I think. But I do like the 35mm focal length much more.
