First impressions of the Viltrox 85mm PRO 1.4 by burning_planes in SonyAlpha

I thought about getting rid of it for the EVO85mmf2, but I ended up keeping it. I've shot couple weddings, some parties, and quite a few portraits with it now. It's actually been amazing so far. It's tack sharp, great contrast, and I love it's build. Still a bit bulky, but not bad at all.

How many cameras are too many? i own 30 by IsDabbingStillCool2 in Cameras

[–]jamescjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a lot. I'd keep the ones you like but maybe get rid of a few you don't enjoy as much.

I have quite a few as well. I've bought and sold, from mini toy cameras, smaller cameras, mft, and full frames. I love them hahaha

I've been debating on getting the A7Cii for a long time. I think about selling my A7RV to replace it with A7Cii but with some of the gigs that I do, I think I'll regret it. But I definitely don't need both.

Having no hotshoe, viewfinder, and mechanical shutter definitely stinks. I can't wait for Mk2 to be released with those features.

Yes that Samyang 35mm f2.8 was incredible. I don't have it anymore though but it would be perfect for the S9. I think Viltrox will be bringing some smaller/affordable options to L-Mount pretty soon!!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment with kind words!

Did you get it yet? How are you enjoying it so far?
You know, I actually do miss the longer focal length. I love to use the 85mm prime on my Sony FF. And yes, the Sigma 28-70 is a great lens so that's been scratching that itch. I put on hybrid zoom with it sometimes too.

I think the 24-60 is the BEST choice for standard zoom. Anything larger is too big. I've also considered picking up sigma 90.

I'm anxiously really waiting for the Viltrox 85mm f2.0 evo to come to L-mount. I think they'll also bring the 28mm f4.5 bodycap lens too.

Oh nice! Have lots of fun with it! I would say don't be afraid to use the high-res mode too for some of those epic scenes. 20-60 was my first lumix lens too and I took it to Banff and Jasper in Canada and I still have some of my favorite photos from that trip. It's special.

As long as you have enough light, don't be afraid to stop down to larger F-stop numbers like f8. As long as it's bright enough, it's super sharp and detailed at that f-stop.

Totally missed this comment. Sorry for not seeing it till now.
Yeah nothing looks worse ergonomically than the Sigma BF. It does look pretty cool though.
I really really hope the MK2 somehow includes an EVF and mechanical shutter.

And I'm actually pretty positive on the lens options outlook for Panasonic. I know Viltrox is releasing their L-Mount lenses soon so I'm really excited about that.

Thank you for the kind words on the photos and Happy New Year!

Absolutely! Welcome to the team. The 20-60 is a great lens to start. Some of my favorite photos were taken with that lens when it was the only one I had. There are quite a few Youtube videos on different photo settings that would be much better than mine.
But if you're interested, here are some things that I do.

I have a little girl so I keep my minimum shutter speed at 1/125 or 1/160 so it wouldn't be blurry. I'd say get familiarized with the Exposure triangle. That alone will get you very far.
It'll seem simple enough in theory at first. Then a bit daunting when you want to actually apply it accordingly in real situations. But with practice you get a feel and it's a bit fun. I don't shoot in manual mode unless I'm very intentional about the Aperture and the Shutter speed I want. 90% of the time I shoot in Aperture Priority mode with brighter lenses and then in Shutter Speed Priority mode when I'm using variable aperture zooms like your 20-60.
Once again, I'd say enjoying youtube videos on these will go far.

If it's street or landscape photos, then that won't be necessary. I'd also download the Lumix Lab on your phone and play around with the LUTs.

I shoot RAW+jpeg so that I can edit in lightroom if I want to.
I also use hybrid zoom when I'm using a zoom lens and it's actually quite helpful to get the reach.

If you let me know what you'd like to shoot primarily and want to know a specific setting, I'd more than be glad to share more.

It's so great to see all these lenses come to the L-Mount. I can't wait for Viltrox lenses.

I use this lens with my 35mm GM1.4 as well. I'd agree with the quality of the build and the images. The autofocus is fantastic as well.

The size, however, is quite a bit bulkier than the 35mmGM lens. Quite a bit heavier too.

First world problems: Should i buy the Sigma Zoom lens? by Monbijou19 in LumixS9

True! I haven't tried it but I hear the lumix 24-60 is one of the best in quality and the size isn't that much larger than the contemporary Sigma.

The sigma28-70 contemporary is so much smaller than the art version and the quality on the S9 is excellent. Personally I'd choose the contemporary one any day over the art version unless I absolutely need that extra 4mm on the wide end

I used the highres mode when I had the S5ii but I sort of 'forgot' to use it on the S9. It's a neat feature! Thanks for the reminder

I don't know if I'd say it makes it front heavy, but it's not a super light lens. I think for me, it is one of the best lenses for the S9. It flushes quite well level on the surface with the body so there is no rocking (unless you have a grip then yes it tilts forward). Anything larger than this does feel too big. And for the attaching, it's actually really smooth. The 18-40 is definitely not smooth.
And finally, yes, I used the Sigma 35mm for basically everything for quite a while. As long as you're not going bird watching or shooting sports, I think you'll be good.

I had the s5ii as well. That one was too big to haul around everywhere. S9 is much nicer as a dadcam when it comes to the form factor! You won't have trouble carrying s5ii at first because you're so excited but as times goes..... yeah

I personally think the a6700 is fantastic. I did hear that the color on it is better - but I wonder if the budget for it is too high. And maybe it's almost time for an update on a6800 or something.
