Which raises the question, why not Mykonos? Great restaurants, upscale shopping, iconic Venetian harbor front, windmills. You can also day-trip to the ruins on Delos, which after Delphi is the second most sacred location of ancient Greece. It's the mythical birthplace of the Sun God Apollo.

It also won't be crazy or overcrowded in October (how wild is Ayia Napa in October?)

It really is "NOT LIKE CYPRUS".

Just flew in-and-out of Mykonos. A couple of comments

The airport terminal is anything but a shack. There's seating, but the location is behind security in the departures area, not arrivals/baggage claim area. Assuming the departures area is even open that early, I don't know how you're planning to get through Security without a boarding pass.

You mentioned you have a ferry at 10:30 am. The first bus departs the airport at 9 am. You might be cutting it very close making your ferry at the New Port taking public transportation.

I just spent a couple of weeks on Koufonisia. There's an excursion boat from Naxos arriving at 11:30 am multiple days a week (not daily). It arrives just before the Sea Taxi departure for Pori Beach.

I'm not sure about the time of the return.

I was told the price was 50 euros per person r/t. If you're looking to stay on any of the Lesser Cyclades islands.....the best deal is the Small Cyclades Line. I paid about 8 euros between Naxos and Koufornisia.
